Pure obsessional obsessive-compulsive disorder, or "Pure O" OCD, is a subtype of OCD that is characterized by intrusive thoughts, images, or urges without any visible symptoms. These "hidden compulsions" can include constant reassurance seeking, obsessive regret or worry, and may involve avoidance, excessive preparation, and thought rituals. They can also cloud your judgement, causing you to make decisions based on fears and compulsions instead of your values. So, how do you break this obsessive cycle?

An estimated five million Americans suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and live diminished lives in which they are compelled to obsess about something or to repeat a similar task over and over. Traditionally OCD has been treated with Prozac or similar drugs. The problem with medication, aside from its cost, is that 30 percent of people treated don't respond to it, and when the pills stop, the symptoms invariably return.

Resumen del Editor
A powerful CBT approach to help you find freedom from obsessive relationship anxiety, doubt, and fear of commitment
Do you obsess over your partner's flaws? Does thinking about the future of your relationship leave you imagining the worst-case scenario? When it comes to navigating the world of romantic relationships, some feelings of anxiety, doubt, and fear are to be expected. But if your fears so extreme that they threaten to destroy an otherwise healthy relationship, you may have relationship OCD - a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) that causes chronic obsessive doubt and anxiety in relationships. So, how can you free yourself to discover deeper intimacy and security?
Relationship OCD offers an evidence-based, cognitive behavioral approach to finding relief from relationship anxiety, obsessive doubt, and fear of commitment. You'll learn to challenge the often-distorted thought patterns that trigger harmful emotions, increase your ability to think rationally, and, ultimately, accept the presence of intrusive thinking while maintaining the values of a healthy relationship.

Freedom from unnecessary suffering is the goal of both Buddhism and modern psychotherapy, yet each approaches this intention from a very different perspective. "Buddhist practice helps us awaken to a well-being that is independent of our circumstances," explains Bruce Tift, "while Western psychotherapy helps us bring our disowned experience into awareness in order to live in a more skillful and satisfying way."

Dead cats. That's the image many people conjure up when you mention curiosity. An image perpetuated by a dusty old proverb that has long represented the extent of our understanding of the term. This book might not put the proverb to rest, but it will flip it upside down: far from killing anything, curiosity breathes new life into almost everything it touches.

If you were raised to believe that painful emotions are a sign of weakness, or if being vulnerable has always made you feel unsafe, then you may have survived by creating a perfect-looking life - a life where you appear to be successful, engaged, and always there for others. The problem? You're filled with self-criticism and shame, and you can't allow yourself to express fear, anger, loss, or grief. You recognize something is wrong, but you're not sure what exactly - only that you feel trapped and alone. If this sounds like you, you may have perfectly hidden depression (PHD).

In Bad Advice, relationship expert Dr. Venus Nicolino - aka Dr. V - takes a blowtorch to the shrink-wrapped “feel good” BS that passes for self-help these days. Smart and irreverent, Dr. V fuses the brains and insight of a nerdy PhD with the heart of a doting Italian mother and the artful profanity of a Philly trucker. Dr. V’s signature combination of humor, hard science, and heart make Bad Advice an iconoclastic course correction like no other. Bad Advice is a fiercely sharp wake-up call that tackles some of self-help’s most damaging truisms.

I feel so seen
This book almost immediately made me feel so much less like the alien I thought I was. I have struggled with rOCD for the better part of a decade, and to have my experiences normalized and my feelings directly summarized and acknowledged was incredibly helpful and surprisingly comforting. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who struggles with an over active amygdala and I will be re-reading this book probably on an annual basis.

Slow moving, over-performed
I found the narrator very irritating. She reads slowly and with great theatrics. What I really wanted was someone like Dr Ruth. Just tell me the research and what I should think about in my own struggle with commitment. Not recommended.

Triggering, but oh so worth it!
I have been struggling with ROCD for the last few months. Hopelessly wondering around my brain trying to solve one painstaking question: "Do I love my partner enough and does this relationship have a future?". I would spend hours a day Googling to find answers to why I had so much relationship anxiety and why I was having such intrusive thoughts about someone who I knew I loved! I would talk to family and my partner but nothing ever seemed to provide lasting relief. I wanted to find anything that would give me tools so that I could get my life back. While this book will not answer these questions for you it will give you the tools to regain your mind and start living the life YOU WANT. I have to say thank you to Sheva Rajaee. Your book has given me so much comfort, be it triggering at times, but I can't thank you enough! I found myself letting my shoulders down and at times even laughing, which is something my anxiety had all but stripped from me. I know this is a journey and this book isn't meant to solve anything but it has given me my first amazing step into living in the gray area and having a truly amazing relationship, one that I create and choose!

Very helpful, but narration detracted
The content is very helpful for someone dealing with any sort of OCD, but the sing-songy nature of the narrator was a distraction and almost felt mocking at times. Narrator would be much better for fiction. Despite that, there are lots of useful insights and tools.

Great book on rOCD and the tools to manage it
This is a great resource for all those struggling with relationship OCD like myself. There are so many gold nuggets in this book for those on (or desiring to be on) the journey to recovery from this crippling ailment. The concepts are simple but powerful, and very realistic. Highly recommend and will be revisiting this book often on my own road to recovery

So needed
I suffer from PMDD and it felt like the author was speaking directly to me. I think the narration is great and there isn’t anything wrong with the way the book was read, it was clear and easy to understand. The information in this book opened my eyes to so many aspects of my behaviors and it’s helping me to reorient my thinking process. I’ll be reading this book probably a few days a year.

Perspective Changing
I recently got into my first serious relationship and quickly discovered something was different about my experience - it wasn’t long until an ROCD diagnosis came my way.
This book has been incredibly helpful, life changing even. Dr. Rajaee’s tone and perspective is approachable, relatable, and validating for anyone struggling with ROCD. Her promise is right; she can’t magically whisk away your ROCD, but she provides tools to help you manage it and grow into understanding the universal uncertainty we all experience. I can’t recommend this book highly enough!
