Resumen del Editor

It’s considered a given, once your child hits puberty, that she or he will become uncommunicative, rude, and withdrawn, but there are neurobiological, social, and developmental reasons for these often-frustrating behaviors, and understanding those factors can really help us parent well.

Focusing on adolescents (covering preteens, teenagers, and young adults), Christine Carter - the parent of four teenagers, a parenting coach, and author - guides you through some of the most important factors when it comes to raising kids in the modern world. She tackles common issues, such as discipline, motivation, drug and alcohol use, sex, and social media, as well as less-frequently addressed concerns, including race, consent, uncertainty, and self-care. In these 18 lessons, parents of children as young as nine will find clear answers to their most pressing questions, along with easy and actionable tactics that are not only based on scientific research, but also road-tested on Dr. Carter’s own kids and clients over the past decade.

The good news is that parenting teenagers can be really joyful and rewarding, and this Audible Original will help guide you down a path that will make your own parenting more fun for every age and stage.

Parenting the Modern Teen

This book was truly one of the best books I have ever listened to help me how to deal with teenagers! It was very well written very well discussed, and extremely clear and easy to follow. It is packed with great solutions and advice to help you help your dear children.
I really enjoyed it so much even though, I have no longer any teenagers at home, but my daughters have to deal with their teenage children! Also I am a teacher, and I could use a lot of this book’s useful informations with my own high school students!
Thank you so much for including this priceless book as a gift to me having been an audible member. I sincerely appreciate that very much.

Insightful mindfulness for raising future adults!

I appreciate the direct. concise, to the point wisdom for dealing with teens and thoughtfulness for how different every teen is and why they are neurologically different matters! It will take practice to revise some of my own habits that might scare my teen away. but I have begun practicing the approaches mentioned here and noticed that my oldest was more comfortable talking to me and seemed to feel like she can be more responsible and in control of her choices, and that is something she craves right alongside our approval.

Great suggestions

This book has a lot of good ideas for dealing with many of the problems families will encounter raising teens. Every kid is different and we all have different relationships with our kids but there are enough suggestions that at least some of the ideas will work

Perfect for a mom whose oldest just became an adolescent

As my oldest son is soon turning 12, I am just starting to encounter some of the topics that this book covers. After listening, I feel better equipped to face the coming years. I asked my husband to listen to it too, and will resisten myself. There is a lot to process and prepare for real world application, but the author did a fabulous job of making the content easy to understand and put into practice.

Good read, knowledgeable book

It kept my attention pretty well throughout. Even having teenagers and feeling pretty knowledgeable about my parenting skills, I still feel like there was plenty learned. Definite wisdom shared in these pages. Good read for parents of all ages. I say the sooner the better.

Terrible advice mixed in with decent advice

in many case, this "parenting" book recommends doing the opposite. In one example, the author scolds her husband for not being understanding enough about how gender is no longer a binary. Their daughter who has only had boyfriend's claims she's queer, so the author feels that it's wrong for him to question that.

Tries to have it both ways

This course is all right, they the author tries so hard to seem hip to today's standards but then keeps waking back and forth. Making a big deal about how gender is now fluid and we have to accept it and that we should encourage our kids to explore themselves, but then when she gets to actually having sex and the modern hookup culture she immediately blasts it as a terrible thing. Even though most women seem to think that this new sexual revolution is a positive one, she goes back to the typical ultra-conservative mindset and tries to fight against the arguments with 'well, actually, they're wrong, it's bad for women! They're liars!' How ironic that she tries so hard to be progressive and yet her true close-minded character comes out when it's about action and not just bragging about how open-minded she is.

Some of the other topics are fine and there's some good advice here, but her hypocritical character really makes me wonder if she really knows what she's talking about and not just trying to posture.
