Helpful Overview

Short and sweet straight to the point. Great book for a quick overview about teenage boys. Very helpful. I have already recommended this book to my friend.

Minimally Helpful

This barely touched the surface. The author failed to go in depth. This is a classic example of telling and not showing.

It was a good quick review, however very brief. There's hardly any details of strategies or examples.

this book should be labeled "how to talk to a gender studies undergrad". I was more interested in a book about men talking to sons

Mostly good, but beware

Mostly good parenting advice. Had some issue with chapter 5 on breaking stereotypes. The author suggested we use gender neutral pronouns with young children, going as far to say we should use “them/they” instead of he/she. I agree that boys need to know it’s okay to be sensitive, to cry, to show emotion, BUT I do not agree that we should pretend there are no biologically instinctual difference between male and female humans that make them act in different ways (protector vs nurturer, etc). We are born with intrinsically different chromosomes that make us the gender we are. Sure, that gender might be on a spectrum, but male and female are different and that’s okay! Actually, it’s not just okay, it’s essential to the success of our species that we be different. Our differences should be celebrated…we should not be teaching our children to pretend otherwise.

First Parenting book

Never needed a book before age 17 for my son. This book is concise and has substance. Grateful for finding something so straight to the point for a single father.

Raising Teen Boys

This was perfectly concise and informative. I really needed this book. Very well done overall.

Very generic advice

Save your time and money and invest in a book with real strategies and research into the Psycology of young men. Disappointed.

Don’t waste a credit

This book offers, no special insight to parenting teenagers other than be a good parent. Discipline your child don’t beat them, allow them to pay restitution, give them some space. I’m not sure I should’ve expected much more with an hour run time, but this was a big disappointment.
