Resumen del Editor

Leaving her ex-husband and old job in San Francisco, attorney Nina Reilly opens a practice in Lake Tahoe hoping to start life over. As she waits for a big case, Nina decides to help Misty Patterson divorce her abusive husband. When said husband is found murdered, Nina agrees to defend Misty against murder charges.

But Misty's defense isn't easy - there are big blank spots in Misty's memory, she has a tendency toward promiscuity, and there is some very damning circumstantial evidence. Where does the truth lie? Is Misty a clever liar, a victim of some early trauma, or is she simply manipulated by others? Does someone else control the strings of Misty's life? Misty just wants to know the truth. And Nina wants justice.

Strong females on both sides of the law

Strong female characters stood out to me. I loved Nina's secretary/paralegal. She added some much needed humor. The court room scenes with the twist at the end was great!
Narrator did a great job. This book had a lot of talking by various characters and she changed accents and/or cadence to indicate who was who.

Wonderful writing, as Always

This is part of a series, and you can start in any order you wish. I' found a few of these before, but this is my first audible book. I love the narrator, I love the authors' styles of writing. I'd recommend these books to anyone who loves thrillers and great suspense

Just keeps getting better

The book kept me interested and I mean interested. I couldn't even watch the golf match on T.V. which is highly unusual.

Legally Soap

The O'Shaughnessy sisters skate dangerously close to the romance genre with their Nina Reilly series. The novels have most of the qualifying romance elements, including the tall, hunky, blonde bad-boy totally in love with the tiny, beautiful, intelligent lawyer, who resists his love and her own longing for him. Fortunately, excellent writing; fascinating, innovative plots; and intelligent, exciting court scenes save this series from the romance category. The Nina Reilly series definitely falls into the legal thriller category, and makes a significant contribution to it. I am greatly enjoying listening to the entire series again in chronological order. It seems to me that each novel gets better than the last. That implies, of course, that this first novel in the series, "Motion to Suppress," is the least satisfying of the lot. None-the-less, this audiobook still rates five stars. Pamela and Mary O'Shaughnessy have initiated a wonderful legal soap opera with "Motion to Suppress." Here we meet Nina Reilly, toiling away in a San Francisco law firm, in an unsatisfactory marriage, raising a lovable eleven-year-old boy, who has a mysterious, absent father. The end of her marriage prompts Nina to move to beautiful Lake Tahoe, where she bravely establishes her own law firm. Her very first case begins the exciting adventures of Nina Reilly, esq. You will enjoy meeting her tough, assertive legal secretary, Sandy Whitefeather — a member of the Washoe nation — and her above-mentioned hunky investigator, Paul Van Wagoner. The narrator of this series, Laural Merlington, does a good job reading the stories. She has a nice, mature, versatile voice, which she uses skillfully to distinguish the characters, especially the men. As the previous reviewers have said, you can listen to these Nina Reilly audiobooks in any order; but I am discovering as I listen to them again in order, that doing so does enhance the enjoyment of this series. I recommend starting here, with "Motion to Suppress," and then listening to each of the novels in order.

Motion To Suppress

Have read a few books in this series and have enjoyed them. Unlike other series each book is a stand alone and you have no problems starting any where in the series. In this book she moves to Tahoe and starts her law practice. We get to meet Sandy for the first time. Enjoy how she works the feeling of the place/city into the stories. Story moves right along and in this book there is lots of court room drama. The ending did not leave you hanging like some books do.

good read/listen

Good story, well narrated. I was looking for a light no brainer type of book and this one got a bit complicated giving such complete descriptions & character development. I got into the story and decided to do no no brainer some other time. I did not guess the ending.

Is it a recording issue, or the real ending?

I’m a Perri O’Shaughnessy fan from way back. I read the series in print soon after each volume was available. I decided lately to revisit them, this time through Audible. The narration is good. Characters are distinguishable through the narrator’s vocal repertoire. I’ve just finished Motion to Suppress, and suddenly I wish I had a print version in hand. Yes, authors sometimes use incomplete sentences at the conclusion to lead the reader to write her own ending. In this case, however, the narrator’s voice ended abruptly, immediately following with a publisher’s plug for other books. Did O’Shaughnessy leave a cliff hanging sentence, or did the splice to the publisher’s voice overlap and cut off the final sentence? Sure wish I had a hard copy about now.

Very disappointing - hard to stay focused.

What disappointed you about Motion to Suppress?

The story is very slow and never picks up speed. I find my mind wonders as I listen and have to back up several chapters because they are so easy to "tune out,"
However, after replaying them I realized I didn't miss much - and still had a hard time staying focused.

What could Perri O'Shaughnessy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not concentrate so much on the ins and outs of gambling, created characters that were not so "typical" and that were the classic stereo type of the roles they held. Need stronger and more memorable scenes and storyline.

What does Laural Merlington bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does an okay job with the female characters but the male voices are totally unbelievable.

What character would you cut from Motion to Suppress?

The ones giving to lessons, advice on playing card games and gambling.

Any additional comments?

I've tried to listen to this book and find that I simply cannot pay attention as it is very boring and grates on my nerves. After listening for as long as I can stand it - I switch to a music app to avoid falling asleep while driving.
