Kill a man and you're a murderer. Kill a million and you're a statesman. Dirk should have killed more people.

Dirriken Friedel used his aristocratic connections to rescue his troops. He didn't plan on starting a war or killing them himself. Now he spends his days in jail, waiting for an assassin sent by his dead officers families to end his misery.

When he's broken out by off-duty marines he has a chance to start over, if he's worthy. During his ramshackle escape he collects a broken-down trading ship, a bitter former army officer, a genetically altered religious fanatic, a runaway ingenue, a sham engineer, and a murderous femme fatale. Pursed by a fanatical imperial tribune bent on bloody justice, can he keep the crew from killing each other, the ship from exploding, and himself from the bottom of a bottle. Or would it be easier just to give up?

If you like Galactic Empires, honorable enemies, and snappy dialog, this one's for you.

Seemed a bit lacking in the ability to engage the reader in what could be a pretty good story line

Just short

The book was a little slow to get started but I am happy that I stayed with it to the end.

Good character development

These books will be future classics for folks who like fun, unique space stories. Great characters and a true page turner.

This might be better read instead of listened to. The reader made it frustrating. The use of references to body parts of the emperor as curses made no sense and was annoying. I will continue the series because of the story and characters.

Enjoyable characters and banter

narrator kills it and the book is charming and funny. story gives firefly vibes in a good way.

It is ok. I finish it out of curiosity.Did not enjoy it at all so I will not buy more books of this series.

Not my cup of tea.

Too short, I didn’t want it to end. Definitely want more! Everything by Andrew Moriarity has been great so far. Lots of great action and Imperial intrigue.

If you like Traveller RPG you should listen to this.

Disliked the boring, mind numbing detail. Liked the individual primary and secondary characters. The end.

Boring text interrupted by moments of predictable excitement.

The first book was good enough for me to read the next book so I’d give it a 4. The next book was better. Book 3 and book 4 are great. The characters continue to get fleshed out and the storyline is more interesting as it goes. It’s a science fiction book but it really an adventure book that happens to be in space. I don’t like spoilers so I don’t give any. I would just recommend this book to people who like science fiction and love good storytelling.

Story gets better and better

I’m completely distracted by the narration. Every character sounds like a 12 year old boy. If I were reading this myself it would likely add another star to my review.

This could be a fun space romp however..
