A concept worthy of consideration.
Interesting concept. A little disconcerting regarding how dismissive the doctor is regarding anything anything anything that seems to be a potential caveat or contradiction to his theory. Maybe he's right? But, it would have been nice to hear more balanced discussion on those seeming caveats,, and reviews or supports from other credible doctors as to whether & why or why not they support his theory and his easy dismissal of all other views and diagnoses.
Addotionally, it's not been my experience that it is easy to retrain one's brain. Some discussion on dealing with immediate pains whilst trying to get a grip on one's brain, conflicting education/experience, and emotions would be helpful. Separately, more research and support via the science behind how this actually comes about in the body would be an enlightening addition once available.
Still a decent rating because it's an interesting concept from a doc with alot of years experience -- so worthy of consideration.

A very thought provoking book.
I always suspected a connection between mind and body. This book provides a frame work to better understand how it works. I found many of the example I could relate to and it greatly enhanced my understanding of how it works and how the connection manifests in pain. While I have just finished listening to the book and not been able to put in practice his theory it has certainly motivated me to put aside my fears and motivated me to action.

Interesting concept
Good concept. Thoroughly explains the theory, but now i want to learn more about the psychotherapeutic approach. He lightly touches upon it and that it helps cure hundreds of patients, but does not give detail in treatment.

Great untapped information. Recommend!
Good narration. easy to understand and follow. books gives a perspective that is hidden in today's society. would cause money towards to the medical Industry If it was more publicized. a shame I had to magically stumble upon this technique.

I went from barely being able to perform any physical activity to running every day! I was in pain all the time, and now barely ever think about it, my whole life has change… If you are reading these reviews it means you have back pain, if so then stop here and buy the book! Cause worst case you lose $13, best case it will change everything about your life!

Skeptical, but not anymore
I started having chronic minor back pain and occasional excruciating back pain starting at about age 38. I pursued every avenue except surgery, but continued to have issues. After having another acute episode and hearing Howard Stern recommend Dr Sarno's books on multiple occasions, I finally decided to listen to his work. I wish I would have done so sooner. All of my education is in exercise physiology and my wife is a physical therapist so I was extremely skeptical. However, almost everything Sarno talks about makes sense. I religiously listen to parts of the book every day, and my back pain issues are virtually gone. I must admit I still have a lot of work to do. If you have constant, nagging back pain, I highly recommend this book.
