historical fiction is so interesting

I liked everything about this book. I now have listened to four books from this author and everyone has been informative and very interesting and entertaining.

Mind boggling

Literally my favorite book now, and that’s saying a lot because i’ve read hundreds of them.

Fascinating Story

This was a very interesting story. The narrator was a little boring at first but his voice improved as I listened. I will move on to book two next and see if the quality is still there.

Compelling

Literally, could not stop listening. Hit the sleep timer two or three times at night staying up past midnight. Almost all of the book was packed with anticipation, excitement, anxiety, or hope. So good

Felt I Was there drinking my airag with ‘em.

This is just an amazing tale, which goes thru several generations of one family. Iggulden writes so descriptively, While I was listening I could see myself there. The author must have spent time in Mongolia to know all the fascinating customs. How the warriors made their bows, prepared traditional meals, customs of courting, and marriage. It is a joy to listen to.

Excellent book and reader

I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Mr. Iggulden is an excellent writer. He brings Genghis, the Mongols, and their time vividly alive. The novel is both entertaining and enlightening. I'll definitely continue with the next in the series. Five stars, kudos, and appreciation to the author.

Simply Extraordinary

It is difficult to explain why this is so good. First of all, how do you take the time period and people with which you may not be very familiar and create a narrative that by the end of the first book, has you smelling, hearing, and feeling what it would have been like in a Mongol camp, on campaign, with the mighty Genghis. I've read books from other time periods that Mr. Iggulden writes about and he doesn't borrow anything as filler. The research on this is amazing, because it aligns well with the nonfiction I've read. Second, we don't know what Genghis' personality was like, but the author does a brilliant job of fusing what we DO know into a believable and congruent narrative. The Kahn comes charging right at you from his time and circumstances, and he doesn't care at all if you think he is ruthless. I really appreciate that Genghis wasn't dumbed down or softened for modern audiences, but I also love that he gets the benefit of the doubt on what his reasons may have been. Third ... somehow the author balances this epic series with detail that puts you there, and stories that develop over time, but magically presents it with a breathless pace. And forth ... How is it even possible the Richard Ferrone can deliver the voices and narration perfectly suited to the times and characters. It has to be sorcery. What a treasure these books are!
