Not everyone managed to survive the bloody battle. The strong, the brave, the courageous, and the good all fell with honor. The war spared few and took away many of the best . . .
Hadjar Darkhan was one of the few who survived and is now ready to continue his journey. The battle is over, and the dead have been sent on their last journey. The unknown and the perils of the imminent war are still waiting for Hadjar. He can sense that his life is about to be filled with the clang of weapons and armor and the beating of war drums. He hates war! But he also longs for it . . . Is there anything worse than war and battle?
Maybe. . .
The endless political maneuvering of the two Empires, which they are trying to draw Hadjar into, is definitely not what he needs right now, especially after losing his loyal companion and true friend in battle. A friend he realized he had only after his death . . .

I can sort of see why some people are upset about Azria (spelling?) but I think it's an interesting way to move the plot ahead.
great addition to the series

(1) the story consistency is atrocious in this book and becomes widely unrecognizable, and worse. let me explain it.
Arkimaea: the half-breed is a driven young woman in past books. then becomes so weak that she can't even put up a fight for her life? she drastically changes her already set behavior for the story's plot line...just dumb.
azrea: a lovable side kick suddenly changes her behavior and gets deceived by a "Novice"? believable if you want to belive the very slow mental development this story and new arc are trying to pitch to you. she also is able to not only fight a Peak stage lord and use an artifact to capture said lord who btw was able to match an Initial stage heaven Emperor with power only slightly inferior to the MC
(Azrea was able to do all that with only about a Year of experience fighting in human form? please. spare me the idiocy)
now I'm perfectly fine with MC's slowing down and all for reflection and to build a solid power base and whatall...but this minor arc was incredibly far fetched and over reaching. for God's sake he has an AI to help him plan and all.
(don't forget that the kind of fighting done 2hrs from the end of the book done would have been felt by the MC, considering that everyone including himself has keener senses than what this story, past arcs and no doubt future arcs have displayed. so this is where I quit this progressively dumber series...
Just don't continue this series.
