From the moment she fell out of the tree in his backyard, ruining his eighth birthday party, Genesis Stoll had been Kye Levine’s best friend. The one person he knew would be there no matter what. She was his escape, his sunshine when the darkness in his world got too deep. When he had her to run to, he knew no matter how twisted his life got, she would remind him who he was. He would never lose himself. She wouldn’t let him.

Genesis had loved Kye most of their life; in a way, she knew Kye didn’t reciprocate. If she ever told him, it would likely destroy their friendship, and she wasn’t willing to take that chance. Besides, Kye would never fall in love and be in a relationship. He was a wild, free spirit.

When an old boyfriend with a past intertwined with both Genesis and Kye walks back into her life, she feels things for him—believing that he could be the man to give her a family, love, and security. All the things she knew Kye never would.

Just as things begin to fall into place for Genesis and the new man in her life, Kye walks in her door with a baby. One he didn’t know existed. One that’s mother had dropped him off like unwanted baggage. A baby boy that belonged to Kye.

this is a continuation of the mafia stories that I've been listening to this is Kai's story though I will say you meet Kai of course in the other books and he is quite the man w**** so when you get to his story and you're not sure what to expect I am was very fascinated to the fact that he is always loved a girl since she was a little girl and has held fast to that it was something very sweet wasn't a lot of like Mafia type stuff going on in it a little bit it was a sexy book though and I enjoyed it.

I don't know how to title this

I’ve been a fan of Abbi Glines for years, and her books never disappoint. She’s such a kind and genuine person, and it’s been amazing to see her grow as a writer. I really enjoyed this series, especially getting to dive deeper into Ky’s character, who I’ve loved since he was a supporting character in other books.

That said, I did feel like this book was a bit shorter than expected. I finished it in just a few hours, and for the price of an Audible credit, it felt a little pricey for the length. I think Audible could consider offering a box set for shorter books like this one, which would be a better deal for readers. I’m not knocking the story, just want others to be aware before purchasing. Overall, it’s still a great read, just be mindful of the length if you’re buying with an Audible credit.

Good story

Jacob Morgan and Juno Copper are fan-bloody-tastic in this. Their chemistry is off the charts. The person giving this a 1 star review for performance must be deaf!! 🤦‍♀️

Tropes:
- Southern Mafia Romance
- Single Dad
- Best Friend's to Lovers
- Childhood Crush/Neighbors
- Reformed Playboy
- Slow Burn
- Hidden Feelings
- Reformed Playboy
- Pierced 🍆
- Touch Her & ☠️
- Forced Proximity

This is the sexy and pierced Kye's book. You've seen his downhill battles in the other books when it came to his best friend Genesis. How he'll drop everything for her, even take his 🍆 out of a hole and rush to her. He even drank himself into a stooper and became really depressed when things weren't going good. How everyone thought she was messing with Kye's well being. Now, we get to see into these two lives, and what really was going on.

They were true best friend's, and didn't want to mess up their friendship by sleeping with each other. Even though they both had super feelings for each other. Although, they never admitted it to each other for a long time. Kye never thought he could commit to one woman for life, and Genesis was a relationship woman.

.Kye was always there for Genesis, even while she was engaged. Even if that really upset him, and you'll figure out why. Kye thought he could give Genesis everything she ever wanted, but he couldn't trust himself. Genesis was in a toxic relationship, even if that's what she wouldn't call it. I'm glad she did her ground and chose Kye in the end. Even though I don't think that would have happened without Kye's son. Even though, Kye did everything to see her happy, even if it was killing him. I think that fiancé would have drove that wedge in-between them if Kye's son wasn't dumped off on him. I'm talking like 2 week old.

Now, 2 things I didn't like in the book. Number 1, towards the end, Genesis "back-up" best friend, Quinn. I didn't like how Quinn didn't like Genesis with her fiancé too, but yeah that whole thing happened (you'll know when you read it) and I thought their friendship should have ended. Number 2, how Genesis fiancé, Bowie didn't like Kye's son name and thought he should have it changed. His son's name was Jagger... how could Bowie not like a name like Jagger. Want there a song made by the two about dancing in the street 🤣 Seriously though, Bowie was a not a good guy in my mind. Plus, for a much bonking as Kye done in life, I would have liked to have seen more between him and Genesis. My opinion though.

Audio Review:

I love Jacob Morgan's voice. This is not the first book I've listened to with him, and his southern accent is hot! I seriously could listen to his voice all day. He does such a great job in so his books. He did an amazing job as Kye's voice, and it was what I pictured him to sound like.

I did enjoy Juno Cooper's voice. I loved the light husky rasp in her voice as Genesis. There were certain times in this book where there was pause on her part in the same chapter. Like a 5 second delay or something. I didn't like that much about her parts.

I love how in the Smoke Series that in the dual POV parts, the opposite voice does their voice even if it's not chapter or POV. Like when it was Genesis chapter and POV, Jacob Morgan's voice still came in and read Kye's lines during her chapters. I like hearing the actual male or female talk churning their lines instead of listening to the woman try to talk as a guy or visa-versa.

I loved this story as much as as the others in the series. The angst, the love and their friendship was beautiful. Juno Cooper is a new narrator for me and I loved her voice. Jacob Morgan is probably my favorite male narrator and he does not disappoint in this role.

As good as the others!

It is great to be back in Abbi Glines’ “Smoke” series world again for another amazing novel, a friends-to-lovers romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This eighth books is Kye Levine and Genesis Stoll’s story and their friendship started when they were kids and it only grew stronger over the years. Both denied that their feeling morphed into something more, because Kye was not a one woman man and she did not think she saw her that way, plus she was not into sharing. Except he did harbor feelings for her, but never acted on his feeling because he was not the relationship type and she was. Besides, he missed his chance when she fell in love with another of their friends, Bowie, but they remained each other’s person and their friendship was always a part of any relationship she was in. When Kye receives a surprise, a bundle of joy, well, not exactly joyful at first, but it was Genesis who helped him out, despite it costing her. Kye has decisions to make, and turns into an eye opening experience, and a pivotal point in his life. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, also loved the unique telling of the story, a chronological thru the years type telling and it was great to watch them grow into their own, with Kye taking longer, but he gets there in the end. This wonderfully written and plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, charming and heartfelt moments, thrilling & suspenseful moments and steamy romance. It was great to see characters from the earlier books too. Abbi Glines, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Abbi Glines continues to cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters to life. Jacob Morgan and Juno Cooper are superbly talented voice artists and they did a fantastic job portraying the characters, giving each a voice that was fitting and was believable in every role. Cooper was spot on as Genesis, grasping every aspect of her personality, including her fierceness, from her youthful years to adulthood. Morgan nailed it as Kye, showcasing his personality perfectly, from his bad boy side to his caring side. Both were just as fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another fantastic listen.

I enjoyed this book so much. there were some production issues though. the narrators were amazing. and knowing Jacob (Zach) and Juno (Taylor) are a real couple makes this book better in my opinion. I didn't want this book to end. there were a few things I wish there was more detail in. this is a slow burn but it's so satisfying when the burn catches fire. I really enjoyed this couple. I love friends to lovers and this was one of the best.

this was such a great book

The narrators for this book are perfect together. Jacob Morgan and Juno Cooper should always be paired together for duet. Their chemistry is undeniable 😉

The story overall is good and engaging. A great friends to lovers story. I wish the mafia plot was elaborated on just a little more rather than as throw away exposition from Kye but overall it’s a good short listen and worth listening to for the narrators alone.

Perfect Narrators ❤️🔥
