Masterful Storytelling

The writer has woven a tale that captivated me from the start. I listen to audio books while I commute. This is a story that has caused me to sit in my car after I get to my destination just to keep listening to what's about to happen next.

The main character is telling her our story and the descriptive scenes and her recollections are so smoothly told that I felt immersed into the story.

Solid Start

I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining, fast paced, and had a really interesting magic system. It did get a bit repetitive and some of the narrative intersections into the story were unnecessary in my opinion. I can't wait to continue the series though!

loved the writing!

loved the writing in the main character referencing the past. gives a new perspective on an old fantasy story.

interesting main character

While I found the story interesting, the lead character perplexed me. I have never read a book rooting against the main character more than in this book. Her character is dark, impulsive, and flawed in many ways leading me wishing her friends to run away before she does them dirty. With her hinting about the pain she brings down on the world in the future, it doesn't sound like redemption is in the cards.
Overall a solid book and I'm sure others will will enjoy the main character more than myself.

Along time for not much

I love the narrator and her presentation, but the over meat of the story was lost on me. May or may not continue the series.

it was a decent story

The main character was hard to like, but I understood why she thought the way she did, which helped. Great narration by the way.

Yep I finally found the DARK.

This is my brand of dark fantasy. Such an intimate and heartbreaking blend of coming of age and the recognition what that entails. This is a deep exploration of just how much we step on our own toes as we grow. All of this peppered with cool magic, lots of bloody action and interesting characters. BUYING book two tonight but I may need a breather.

Moira, as always, is genius.

Amazing Stuff

The story was phenomenal, with an allusion so so much more to come. the voice acting was terrific and I would definitely recommend it.

Interesting 1st person narrator

I love the main character. She is flawed, too young and not the best at what she does. She is only “special” in that she is the only one left. There is an accurate portrayal of the disillusionment of “romance.” I love that the character knows how to differentiate between filial, erotic, and Platonic forms of love in reflective comment. I think this writing uniquely chooses to make the non-romantic characters and their flawed relationships with one another more valuable and more interesting… I really enjoyed this work.

More please!

Good story and good narration. I’m very happy I found this book. I noticed when I’m enjoying a book the time flies by and it’s effortless listening for hours and you can’t wait to get to the next book. That’s what I got with this book, it had everything that I like and took me somewhere else for a while. I recommend this book.
