Queen of paranormal romantic comedy Molly Harper delivers love and laughter in this magnificent series finale - available in audio first!

Eva Boudreaux keeps the truth about her life before arriving in Mystic Bayou a carefully guarded secret, flying under the radar as a talented boat mechanic. In the swampy little town filled with powerful supernatural beings, Eva never expected to strike up a charged flirtation with one of the Bayou’s human residents.

Alex Lancaster is far too polished for Eva’s taste - not to mention the danger that comes with his high-ranking position in the League, which could expose her secrets. Trouble is, she can’t resist his disarming sense of humor or the chemistry that crackles to life whenever he’s near. Will Alex be able to handle a woman like her? Or will her difficult past keep them apart?

Either way, they’ll need to join forces to solve one final mystery in Mystic Bayou. The fate of the town - and their hearts - depends upon it.

The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

Dear Listener,

How does it feel to close the final chapter on Mystic Bayou?
"When I started the Mystic Bayou series, my Audible editor told me I could write about any supernatural creature I chose in whatever setting I wanted. That is a dangerous thing to tell a writer. I fell into a serious research rabbit hole and came out with the citizens of Mystic Bayou. This strange, complex, and wonderful group of fictional people got me through a cross-country move, relative isolation in a new hometown, and a pandemic. While it’s difficult to say goodbye, I hope I’ve left each of them happy ever after.
The response to these stories has been so heartwarming. To clear up a few commonly asked questions: No, this town isn't based on a real place. No, sadly, Zed isn’t based on a real person. (Couldn’t we all use a Zed in our lives?) And no, I cannot provide a recipe for chocolate rhubarb pie. I threw together two random ingredients I thought would make a really strange dessert. And it still sounds super weird, at least to me.
I hope this final entry in the Mystic Bayou series is as satisfying and joyful to listen to as it was for me to write. I hope I brought you laughter, fun, and a little less loneliness. I hope my longtime narrator Amanda Ronconi never gets tired of my shenanigans, because none of this would be possible without her." – Molly Harper, writer of A Farewell to Charms

I've loved every book in the Mystic Bayou series and it is so bittersweet that this is the last installment. I feel like I could listen to stories about this quirky town forever but I'm so happy it's ending on a happy, optimistic note and clearly on Molly Harper's terms. (If she ever decides to reopen it, tho, I will give her all my money.)

Eva is an interesting character and her background was well done in my opinion. I loved that the book didn't shy away from making her ballsy or play down her strength to make Alex seem more masculine, and the fact that he found it hot was all the better. As always, Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis gave fantastic performances and I will miss this series dearly and revisit the town through re-listens often.

A Wonderful End to One of my Favorites

While some of the middle books dropped off in quality, this one ends strong. As usual, Ms Harper’s formulas ensure certain running gags and kitchy features will reappear here. There’s a confection of a romance story amidst colorful recurring characters/features of Mystic Bayou (pies perfectly paired with each customer, jokes about pervy alligators and charming bear-shifter Zed and his ever expanding fish story about his great, great .... great grandad, etc). There’s always a Scooby-Doo level mystery, one half of the main couple getting kidnapped/accosted by the bad guy for the climax, and a lightning-fast like to nooky to love story. The nooky is a little naughty and still kind of “whoa, so it’s on, that was quick... and, it’s over. That WAS quick.” It isn’t cozy, but it’s also no more that your average regency romance. And, there’s cussing, which isn’t awful but I honestly don’t think it’s ever added anything to these stories.

This story features bodacious Eva and human Alex, who in previous books was the “other guy” potential suitor that gets left in the dust. I like that Ms Harper flips the script on several relationship tropes without getting awkward or preachy. Instead, there’s a lot of humor as Alex worries that she’ll see him as just a “corporate d0uche with a calculator,” while Eva actually sees him like he just “stepped out of an advertisement for cologne, with beach backgrounds and long distance staring.” I also like that Eva isn’t some thin, fragile flower. And, I love that Eva owns her babe-aliciousness. But, I wish the cover art would have owned her plus-sized, and Tomboyish, beauty a bit more.

Being the series finale, half the story detours from Eva & Alex and instead spends a lot of time on the previous couples, allowing them to gush about their HEAs, marriages, nuptials and babies. This is more like a novella plus a bunch of epilogues from the previous book. Not a bad thing, but it means this one can’t really be appreciated as a stand alone. There was less angst, more humor, and more inclusion of the entire gang of magical misfits throughout the story, making this the perfect recipe to nourish my urban fantasy rom-com loving soul.

It’s that kind of series finale

This is such a great story series, and I loved this latest installment audiobook of Alex & Eva. After the previous book, I wasn’t sure what the next one would be about, or whose romance would be featured. All of Molly Harper’s favorite characters from the Mystic Bayou series come together as a community to express themselves and maybe save the day. Love the narrators and the back-n-forth perspectives.

What I loved about this particular series is its set from the Gulf Coast. I live down here and some of the stuff she writes about just literally cracks me up because it’s true lol. If you want to just relax start with how to love a dragon. First book in the series and don’t even think about skipping the 2.5 or the 4,5 book. A bit shorter but you may miss some things if you don’t! Enjoy reading/listening ;)

I'll be honest, I didn't see a relationship between Eva and Alex coming. But man am I happy that it did! Alex was sulking too much. I'm glad he finally found him a little slice of happiness. Also I'm glad that they made him more of a submissive male. It was refreshing.

Mystic Bayou series altogether was great. The only dislike is that you could foresee what was happening every time a new scientist came into the town. It was very similar, but also different. A new scientist comes into town, falls in love, conflict, then happily ever after. I enjoyed the series very much.
