From the #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of the genre-breaking international TikTok sensation Butcher & Blackbird and Leather & Lark comes the final book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy—a friends-with-benefits dark romantic comedy packed with murder, mayhem, and spice.

Doctor Fionn Kane is running from a broken heart, one he hopes to mend in small-town Nebraska, far away from his almost-fiancé and his derailed surgical career. It's a simpler life: head down, hard work, and absolutely no romantic relationships. He wants none of the circus he left behind in Boston.

But then the real circus finds him.

Motorcycle performer Rose Evans has spent a decade on the road with the Silveria Circus, and it suits her just fine, especially when she has the urge to indulge in a little murder when she's not in the spotlight. But when a kill goes awry and she ends up with an injured leg, Rose finds herself stuck in Nebraska, at the home of the adorably nerdy town doctor.

The problem is, not every broken heart can be sewn back together.

. . . And the longer you stay in one place, the more likely your ghosts are to catch up.

Nothing will ever compare to Butcher and Blackbird for me. It’s my favorite all time book. And I truly did not enjoy Leather and Lark. This book was better. The narrators are awesome. They did fantastic. I do miss Joe Arden. I thought the plot for this book was drawn out. But it was still good. BUT THE EPILOGUES! They were everyyything 💕💕💕💕💕

Love this trilogy

Nothing about this book I didn’t like. The emotional connection that they had was well written and there friendship was beautiful

Perfect book for the end of the trilogy!! So sad it’s come to an end but Rose and Fionn’s story was so much fun 🧡

The entire trilogy had you going through every emotion. Each character feeling real, and the dark romance part was so detailed and exquisite! Easily some of the best I've read!

Incredible

Brynne Weaver was brilliant in her masterpiece Scythe and Sparrow, intertwining the story of the last but certainly not least of the Kane brothers into the Ruinous Saga. For so long, we’ve only caught glimpses of Fionn and the little banshee known as Rose scattered through the previous books. But finally, we’re given the full spread. And let me tell you, it’s not just a chapter it’s a reckoning.

We’re invited to sit down with them, quite literally, as they recount their first meeting at the hauntingly poetic Butchered and Blackbird restaurant. What follows is a slow-burning tale of rediscovery, healing, and hard-won love. Scythe and Sparrow doesn’t offer insta-fix romance or easy resolutions. Instead, it lays out the raw bones of connection: insecurities, patience, hard conversations, and the ache of forgiving yourself before anyone else can.

Rose is a revelation. She doesn’t wallow in her pain. She transforms it. We watch as she takes the leap, healing emotionally and physically, not for anyone else’s sake, but her own. And Fionn? He may not be the most chaotic, sarcastic, or brooding of the Kane brothers, but he is perhaps the most real. This is a man tangled in tides of memory, guilt, grief, and ghosts desperate to become the person others expect of him while not knowing who he is beneath it all.

Watching him choose to face himself, choose to speak, choose to stay it’s what makes this book feel less like a fantasy and more like a reading from the heart’s own tarot deck. And if I had to pull a card for this couple? It’s The Lovers, reversed, slowly finding its way upright.

What makes this romance so deeply affecting is its realism. It takes time. Time to learn, to grow, to trust. Fionn and Rose are a breath of fresh air in a world full of tropes. They are proof that pursuit and being pursued can coexist that love can be both a sword and a balm. Fionn sets the example of gentle, relentless pursuit. Rose sets the example of being worthy of it, even when it’s hard to believe.

And when the story ends, it doesn’t feel like a goodbye. It feels like a promise. Like the quiet, unwavering line Fionn writes at the end of every letter to Rose:

“I love you. I’m not giving up on you.”

Neither will we.

(Can’t wait to read Autumn Bowers story next 😉)

Book Rating: 4/5 (slow start)
Audio Rating: 3/5 (I did wish it was a different voice actor compared to Leather and Lark, but still well done)
Story Plot: 5/5 (I want to join the Suture Sisters club!!!)

Last BUT NOT Least 😉

I fell in love with this series on book 1 (Butcher and Blackbird) and I drug my feet on starting this one because the last/youngest brother's story marked the end of the series. I cried because of the heartbreak and deep internal conflict in this book (like I did with the previous two) and I cried because it was the last one and I'm sad to never read about the Kanes again.

No notes for this book. I loved every letter, punctuation, space, and wet dream it gave me. Thank you Brynne Weaver, the two amazing voice actors that brought the characters to life - my God you two are the sh#t, other fans of the Ruinous Love series (for getting this pushed up in my recommendations), and the Kane family for being my gold standard of dark romance-comedy.

I can't wait to see what is next from Weaver.

Thank You Kane Family

The banter in these books is what will keep you coming back. The spice is also 🔥🌶️🥵. I don’t feel like I got closure for their story? Maybe I missed something but it felt a little open ended. Still loved this series.

Loved it. It's def not my favorite in the series, no one can ever compare to Lachlan & Lark but Rose and Fionn made me happy. This was a beautiful wrap up to the Ruinous Love Trilogy and can't wait to see what comes from the second epilogue and how that will translate to another book series. Fionn's growly quality in the spicy scenes was EVERYTHING!! The audiobook was 5 stars, Samantha Brentmoor and Eric Nolan are always a pleasure to listen to.
