Publisher's summary

From author Jescie Hall comes this heart-wrenching tale of addiction and a transcendent love that fights despite adversity in this spin-off instant attraction romance.

Addiction is my weakness.

A cruel temptress that follows me wherever I go.

Slowly dragging me down until I drown.

Until she shows up.

Johanna.

My life preserver in this ocean of drugs and madness.

She's a total enigma, as chaotic as they come. A vixen who lives her life without limits.

But her demons are greater than mine, and they threaten to drown her right alongside me.

I need her as much as she needs me.

We can either hang on and save each other, or we can both sink into oblivion, letting our pasts, our memories, our addictions be the anchor that weighs us down.

Contains mature content, including heavy drug use, self-inflicted pain, trauma, and graphic sexual content.

Real and Heavy

Never has a books trigger warning affected me in the way that Kid has. Listening to/reading this book was triggering and hard and incredibly rewarding.

Jescie Hall is a poet. This real world and heavy subject matter was so difficult to listen to and I found both Kai and Han two of the most relatable characters I’ve ever read.

While Joe Arden could have easily taken the single POV and moved me with his performance, adding in CJ Bloom to voice Han took this to levels beyond belief.

Please check the content warnings and take your time with this but know that by the end you will be stitched up and healed.

Joe Arden narration is always a win!

This book was incredible, in such a different way than I expected. I have read some Jescie Hall before this one, but this just hit an entirely new level.

The absolute hurt and anger the 2 MCs deal with throughout this entire book, and the drug use. This is a story of 2 very broken souls who find their way to each other, even when they aren't looking.

Kid, whose real name is Kai, came out to California to stay with Hawke (previous book). Hawke wanted to help him get clean and on the right track. Hon, Jo, Johanna, depending on who is talking to her or about her, is Nicole's (Cole, Nic) sister. This takes place after a traumatic event in the sister's lives. It's pretty much instant attraction when Kid sees her for the first time at a club. Then they find out who each other is.

There is extremely heavy drug use and trauma in this one, so if you are triggered by those, this one isn't for you. I absolutely love how JC builds the characters and the struggles they deal with so perfectly.

The narration was perfect! Duet style with Joe Arden and CJ Bloom.

5 stars.

PERFECTION!!! SPEECHLESS!! ♾️⭐️

I have had KID by Jescie Hall on my tbr since it was released but just haven’t had time so when this audio released , I ran!!!

I am 1000% happy that I chose the Audio version as my way to experience this perfect novel! I couldn’t of asked for a better Kai! The way Joe Arden brought him to life was utter perfection and I don’t think I could enjoy Kid in any other form just since he did it so well I don’t know if my mind could do it any better!! CJ Bloom was the perfect Han as well!! Couldn’t have asked for anyone better!

Now about Kai and Han’s story! This is such a hauntingly desperately beautiful love story! A story of healing trauma by realizing you are never too broken to be loved. Kai and Han’s story has hit the closest to home than any other book! The loss of a parent, dealing with addiction, just wanting to be numb at all costs, thinking you will never be good enough and running at the first chance of serious emotions are all things I have felt/ dealt with in real life.. Chapter 45 and 46 completely broke me.. The words Kai told Han in chapter 46 was something I have been told myself when handling my mom’s passing in 2021 and by the time the book was over I could breathe again! I will forever highly recommend this book!

On to the lighter stuff, the Spice!!! Hot damn Kai has a mouth on him!! The 🔪play 🫠🫠 They were both hot for each other from the beginning and I loved that for them (even though Han tried to fight it!) Kai was sooo funny as well!! I am completely in love with his personality!

Kai has now tossed Aero out of the way and is now my number 1 Jescie hall book boyfriend! My life will never be the same after Kai!

As always Blue Nose Audio did an amazing job!

real

I sobbed, I laughed, I felt so much of this book. The spice was nice but holy shit this book, the emotions. Hearing Joe Arden as Kai, it was just so well done. so much respect for the writer on these intense subjects and the narrators for making you feel every emotion.

Amazingly deep

This book was dark and deep. It dealt with some difficult situations, topics, and emotionally tough. The author did an amazing job with this book and the writing is superb. I absolutely loved this book and the characters. Please read trigger warnings, please take your mental health seriously but if you that doesn’t bother you definitely read or listen to this book.

Not your TYPICAL Book Boyfriend BUT...

... BUT 100% Book Boyfriend Material!
MMCs are typically built, tougher, more bad a$$, and while there are some obsessive and controlling tendencies, Kid is much different and I LOVED that the MMC was written and bit on the softer side for lack of a better way to say it (because Kid isn't Soft). At first, I thought there was a bit too much crying but I suspect it was written that was to ensure and different take on the bad a$$ MMC in most Dark Romances and for Kid and this story it was needed. And Joe outdid himself with portraying those emotions and giving us an amazing Kid! Regardless Kid was everything you want in a man who would burn the world for you and everything you need in the bedroom to awaken your sexuality. I wasn't sure I would love the “smug” use part of this story, but I am so glad I gave it a chance because I loved this book and highly recommend it. Emotional, Sexy, Powerful!

Another good one!

It's a good story, unexpected and original even though the main character is originally introduced as a supporting character in another book and it seems like those types of stories are often kinda predictable and bland. The duet narration is great, both actors are super reliable and consistently good in the work they put out.

Heads up, this story has A LOT of heavy drug use and experiences related to addiction...might be difficult content for some.
