Audie Award, Paranormal, 2013

Dark fantasy goes hardboiled in Book II of the hard-hitting Grimnoir Chronicles by the New York Times best-selling creator of Monster Hunter International. The Grimnoir Society’s mission is to protect people with magic, and they’ve done so - successfully and in secret - since the mysterious arrival of the Power in the 1850s, but when a magical assassin makes an attempt on the life of President Franklin Roosevelt, the crime is pinned on the Grimnoir. The knights must become fugitives while they attempt to discover who framed them.Thing go from bad to worse when Jake Sullivan, former P.I. and knight of the Grimnoir, receives a telephone call from a dead man - a man he helped kill. Turns out the Power jumped universes because it was fleeing from a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. That predator has just landed on Earth.

I was spellbound.

Even better than the first. Right from the start there is intrigue, action, and great characters without having to learn everything all over again. I recommend Larry Correia to all my friends and family. Larry always leaves me feeling like I have been on a roller coaster, wind in my hair and a foolish grin on my face. He is an automatic download for me. Narration is really good, my only complaint is that even though some of the characters are supposed to sound like bumpkins he will sometimes sound that way for the wrong people. I have become a fan of steampunk and I would say this book has some of the qualities of one. Larry is defiantly an author I will reread.

A story rare in its beauty.

It's rare for a book to get to me so strongly that I'm brought to tears. This book, like it's predecessor before it, has done that.

Refreshing and Lively

Have you listened to any of Bronson Pinchot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Top of the line narration! Makes listening a real joy as he brought depth, feeling and congruence to the characters and kept things entertaining.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the variety and utility of the magical skills, the team work and creative ways characters used their skills in concert with one another, and the Knight's values.

Can be hard to get into, but a great story

These books are always hard to get into, but after a certain point I just feel hooked by them. The setting is great and pretty atmospheric, and the ending is very climactic. The best way I could describe it is that the book takes a while to ramp up, but it maintains that excitement it gathers the whole way.

Loved It!!!!!!!!!!!!

What did you love best about Spellbound?

Everything

Who was your favorite character and why?

All Grimnoir Society, can't pick one.

Which character – as performed by Bronson Pinchot – was your favorite?

Can't pick one.

Any additional comments?

This is a Great Series, you will not be disappointed with listening. Only qualm about narration was that Lance sounded differernt in this book. But otherwise, once used to change although annoying (mild) still great story and narration.

Great book - great series

Any additional comments?

This is the second book in the series. I suggest you start with book 1 for maximum enjoyment. This is a fantastic story with great characters. Correia is a master story teller and talented writer. His style is unique and easily recognized. His huge imagination creates highly interesting situations with lots of action.

Bronson Pinchot, the narrator is excellent and was a perfect choice to bring the Grimnoir Chronicles to life.

Great series so far

I was afraid the second book wouldn’t hold up but it does. It’s a fun audio with continuing references to possibilities in history which are interesting to consider. It moves along pretty well with different approaches to the issues at hand. I’m ordering the 3rd and hopefully it will be excellent. There are a lot of of books in this series so I’m trusting they’ll keep my interest. 🦋

Outstanding Story-telling & Narration kept me...Spellbound!!

A worthy sequel to Hard Magic. The series' world building keeps getting even better than it already was during HM. I am very much looking forward to the third title, Warbound!
