Audie Award, Paranormal, 2013

Dark fantasy goes hardboiled in Book II of the hard-hitting Grimnoir Chronicles by the New York Times best-selling creator of Monster Hunter International. The Grimnoir Society’s mission is to protect people with magic, and they’ve done so - successfully and in secret - since the mysterious arrival of the Power in the 1850s, but when a magical assassin makes an attempt on the life of President Franklin Roosevelt, the crime is pinned on the Grimnoir. The knights must become fugitives while they attempt to discover who framed them.Thing go from bad to worse when Jake Sullivan, former P.I. and knight of the Grimnoir, receives a telephone call from a dead man - a man he helped kill. Turns out the Power jumped universes because it was fleeing from a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. That predator has just landed on Earth.

great narration. good story

narrator does many voices and accents well. writing is good. well developed setting. lots of tips o the hat to historical figures, and other fiction writers. Larry keeps it real interesting. definitely no dragging parts. a little cheesy at times but not too extreme.

Still loving this series!

While the first one was great because it explained a really neat power system, this one seemed mostly to touch on the history of a big bad guy, and explain how that was an issue now. Not as amazing as the first, but I feel it it set up for a great third one. If you really liked the first one, this is still worth it.

Not as good as the first book

I am hoping the sequel is better. I enjoyed how this book slows things down, allowing a mystery develop then switch drastically into action. However, this installment feels rushed towards the end and fails to answers a few questions about the world. Realistically, this book plot downscaled from the previous save the world.

A fantastic story, well performed

I already loved this book in print form, but Bronson Pinchot's narration really makes it come to life. Highly recommended.

Brilliant!

What did you love best about Spellbound?

As with most of Correia's stories- the characters. Well developed and draw you into the story

What did you like best about this story?

Great plot and tie in with book one but still able to stand on it's own.

What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Pinchot is an excellent narrator that does a fantastic job whit the voice of each character that draws you deeper into the story without being a distraction.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Definitely looking forward to book 3 as the ending was perfect.

Any additional comments?

Better than book 1 with all the old characters back in the thick of it with some great new additions.

Fast and entertaining

I enjoyed this, although I didn't like it as much as Hard Magic. Correia's fantasy world is intriguing. You have to like the hardboiled/noir genre, or you won't care for this series, even if you're a fantasy or steampunk fan. It's fast-moving and violent, although without the sort of wallowing or glorying in violence that you find (for example) in some serial killer-type novels. I enjoyed watching the character of Faye develop. I'm looking forward to the next one.

As I said in my review of Hard Magic, I don't love Bronson Pinchot's narration, but it didn't bother me as much in Spellbound as in Hard Magic.

Fun magical adventure

Great action packed magical character full story. The narration is very good, but at times a little difficult to hear, the tone is very low.

Best voice acting i've ever heard so far

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This has been the best audio production book series I have listened to. The voice acting was superb!! The audio was well edited (no annoying discontinuities or pronunciation blips). I think this is what it would have been like to listen to the old radio shows of the 50/60s. Great story and great vocals kept me hooked through the whole series

New Allies, New Villains, and More Hard Magic!

Correia gives us just enough of the new along with just enough of the old in Spellbound. We get some dynamic new characters without losing the tight-knit feel of Pershing's Knights, we get some new villains and new stakes that are just as dire but from a whole new direction, and our understanding of The Power grows and develops very naturally, as if Correia had planned it this way all along.

Pinchot continues to amaze as he maintains his entire cast of characters from the previous book, and brings a while new set to life effortlessly.

A great stand-alone story from beginning to end, but with some new plot lines that will clearly continue into the third book. I absolutely devoured Spellbound after reading Hard Magic, and was eager for more at the end.
