Audie Award, Paranormal, 2013

Dark fantasy goes hardboiled in Book II of the hard-hitting Grimnoir Chronicles by the New York Times best-selling creator of Monster Hunter International. The Grimnoir Society’s mission is to protect people with magic, and they’ve done so - successfully and in secret - since the mysterious arrival of the Power in the 1850s, but when a magical assassin makes an attempt on the life of President Franklin Roosevelt, the crime is pinned on the Grimnoir. The knights must become fugitives while they attempt to discover who framed them.Thing go from bad to worse when Jake Sullivan, former P.I. and knight of the Grimnoir, receives a telephone call from a dead man - a man he helped kill. Turns out the Power jumped universes because it was fleeing from a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. That predator has just landed on Earth.

A stunning achievement

Once again Larry Corriea delivers.

The stakes are higher, the consequences more dire and the action just keeps on rolling.

Bronson Pinchot continues to amaze with a breathtaking performance.

BOOK 2 IS JUST AS GOOD AS BOOK 1

Would you listen to Spellbound again? Why?

MAYBE, I DO NOT TEND TO LISTEN TO BOOKS TWICE BUT IF I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING GOOD TO LISTEN TO THEN YES I WOULD LISTEN TO IT.

Who was your favorite character and why?

JAKE SULLIVAN, I LIKE THAT HE IS NOT THE TYPICAL BIG DUMB GUY HE IS SMART AND KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.

Have you listened to any of Bronson Pinchot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

YES THE FIRST GRIMNOIR BOOK, IT IS THE SAME.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

NO EXTREME REACTION JUST I LIKE THE RUDE COMMENTS THAT SOME OF THE CHARACTERS MAKE, THEY MAKE ME LAUGH OUT LOUND SOMETIMES AND MY WIFE LOOKS AT ME LIKE I AM CRAZY.

Such a good story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

After listing to the first book "Hard Magic" I couldn't wait to listin to "Spellbound" and it was better than I expected. The weaving of alternate history, great characters, tense action and interesting twists on magic combine with great narration to make you want to find more time to listen. I always anticipated the dog walk just to hear what Jake and Fey where up to now

What did you like best about this story?

Best things about this story were the non stop action, history twists and interesting take on magic.

Have you listened to any of Bronson Pinchot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Bronson's narration of both of these books were stellar.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Who will control magic?

Any additional comments?

Hurry up with the next story. What a great lead in.

Not as good as the first

Awesome book and an awesome series. I feel as though it was a filler book and s very good one at that. It was a setup book for the last book of series. A good listen none the less and a great narrator.

Another series I'll be following

Larry Correia caught my attention with his "Monster Hunter International" series. The premise is novel and the writing fast and fun. The "magic" series of which Spellbound is the second book, (Hard Magic is the first) is written in the same irreverent style as the MHI books. Since most of my reading time takes place on the road or trail, the light yet intense tone of the books hold my attention as the plot weaves and dodges. The characters are well drawn and their individuality is parceled out over the course of the books in just the right way. Bronson Pinchot's narrations is spot on and the accents make the characters different and more real. If you are looking for a fun read, I can recommend any of Correia's books, but start from the first of each series; it makes the following books easier to follow and you will enjoy the characters more.

Another great Correia novel

With crazy antics and secret societies running across the US to stop a rogue government agency. You can only depend on one small group to defend the rights of the majority and Jake Sullivan and his rag tag group are at it again. This is my favorite series by Larry Correia and each novel in it gets better and better making you wish that it would go on for far longer than it did.

Can't get enough!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Already have and he loved it too.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Spellbound?

Anything I could write about would be a spoiler. Let's just say memorable moments include both action scenes as well as the ever witty dialog.

What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I couldn't imagine I would have done justice to the perfect interpretation of the characters' personalities that Bronson has brought. He truly made these characters real people with believable powers.

Double Wow

Continuing from the first book, Bronson Pinchot keeps on with an excellent narration of a great second installment of Larry Corriea's Grimnoir chronicles series.

I've always loved reading the book myself but this narration continues to be incredible. Bronson stays pretty true to the voices he used for characters from the first book in the series (Hard Magic) and continues to surpass just reading a book by being a fully involved storyteller instead.

Bronson Pinchot is wonderful

This is a good compelling story set in an interesting and novel (at least to me) mashup world of magic and noir. I enjoyed it on its own merits.

However, I almost didn’t get it because the narrator is Bronson Pinchot. I couldn’t imagine Balki Bartokomous narrating a noir story. I know he’s done more than that but everything I knew was pretty silly and over the top. Even in True Romance where his character is not quite such a cartoon, he’s soft.

That was a mistake. He really elevated the material. The man is a chameleon with his voice. It was like it was narrated by a dozen actors, each one vivid. I had the book as well but I found myself putting it down to wait until I had a chance to listen to the narration instead. I really loved the performance. Now I will check out other stories based on the narrator and Bronson Pinchot in particular.
