Publisher's summary

Your child’s hyperactive mind is actually a blessing, not a curse. Here’s what you need to know….

One minute everything is good; your child is calm and focused. But then, in the blink of an eye, something changes—now they’re hysterical, screaming, and getting them to sit still for even half a second is suddenly impossible. Do you often sit there and worry about your child's temper, wishing there was something you could do to help them calm down a bit, but not knowing where to start? Is their frustration leaving you frustrated, causing you both to spiral out of control? You’re not alone.

There are over 6.4 million parents feeling exactly what you are feeling right now. With some deeper insight into what ADHD actually is and how it affects your child's brain, paired with a practical guide for how to effectively navigate this situation, you’ll soon find that your child's “problem” isn’t actually a problem at all.

In Parenting Strategies for Raising ADHD Children, you’ll discover:

  • How ADHD is affecting your child's brain chemistry, and why understanding this is the key to making the right decisions for them
  • The number one thing your child needs from you and how you can give it to them best
  • Why your child’s hyperactive mind is actually a good thing and what you can do to help them realize this
  • Effective strategies for teaching your child how to express their emotions in a way that you can actually understand
  • Why you shouldn't force your child to do things a certain way and how this will help them be more relaxed
  • A play-by-play action guide for helping your child navigate the difficult world of peer pressure
  • How to help your child overcome their limiting beliefs and begin to truly connect with the truth of who they are

Your child needs you to step in and help them understand who they truly are, and why their way of being isn’t actually a problem. More importantly, you also need to give yourself some much-needed breathing room and time for relaxation.

Put me at ease!

My son was diagnosed recently after lots of struggle and frustration at school this year… and at home, too. After listening to this, I feel much less confused and overwhelmed. There are solid strategies we can start using today to help him (and the rest of the family) navigate the attention and hyperactivity issues that so often derail our day. A great resource!

Great examples for Parents to Follow

This is the book that I wish was available when I was raising my children as my oldest had severe ADHD. Now, as I try to assist with my Granddaughter this book really sheds light on how to handle the everyday situations when they arise. Kudos to the author as she does an excellent job explaining all of the stages from young ages as well as they grow older. The book offers both practical and truly useful insights/tips. I highly recommend!

Lots of Golden Nuggets Details!

This book is an incredibly valuable resource. It presents a comprehensive guide to understanding ADHD and developing effective strategies for managing behavior, improving communication, and fostering academic success.

One of the key takeaways from the book is the importance of setting clear boundaries and expectations for children with ADHD. Elizabeth emphasizes the need for consistency and structure, and provides practical tips for developing routines and creating a positive and supportive environment.

Another valuable aspect of the book is the emphasis on communication. Elizabeth provides insights into the unique challenges facing ADHD children when it comes to communication, and offers tools and strategies for improving communication between parents and children.

The book also delves into academic success, offering strategies for helping ADHD children achieve their full potential in the classroom. Elizabeth addresses common concerns such as organization, time management, and working with teachers, and provides practical tools for parents to support their children's academic success.

Overall, I found this book to be an extremely helpful resource. The writing style is easy to understand and the organization of the book is logical and easy to follow. The content is well researched and backed up by a wealth of scientific literature.

One minor weakness of the book is that it may not provide enough information for those with more severe cases of ADHD, as many of the strategies presented are geared towards mild to moderate cases. As a parent of an ADHD child, I found the book to be refreshing and inspiring, offering practical solutions and ideas for managing ADHD behavior. The author's approach is positive and hopeful, focusing on the potential for growth and success with the right strategies in place.

In addition to the strategies presented in the book, I would like to emphasize the importance of taking care of oneself as a parent of an ADHD child. It can be exhausting and overwhelming to manage the challenges of ADHD, and it is important for parents to prioritize their own self-care in order to be effective caregivers.

I would recommend this book to any parent or caregiver of an ADHD child, but particularly those who are just beginning their journey with ADHD. The book provides a comprehensive introduction to understanding ADHD and developing effective strategies, making it an excellent resource for parents starting out on this journey.

A Great Resource for Parents and Teachers

Understanding children who are bright, active, often distracted and unorganized are typical characteristics of ADHD kids. This book shares practical ways to manage behaviors, tantrums, excessive energy, and lack of executive skills. I like how she addresses routines, frames out expectations and speaks in advance (pre preparation) regarding what is to happen next in the child’s schedule. She talks about modeling appropriate self expression and communicating effectively. The author talks about monitoring medication should they take that route and encouraging the child to discuss how medications make him/ her feel.
The author also talks about discovering the child’s interests and building on the child’s interests for success. Being active in sports, learning to be a team player and running off energy are all great strategies for a child who is hyperactive. This is a must have book that will help parents and children understand how to live with and manage ADHD.
