Critic reviews

“Short enough for a busy parent to actually read and use; utterly reliable and authoritative but never pedantic; wise, kind, and teeming with the chirping voices of children who have ADHD; this cornucopia of a book will feed you over and over again. Wonderfully written, infused with positive energy and solid information. All parents of children who have ADHD should buy it.” (Edward Hallowell, MD, best-selling author of Delivered from Distraction)

“We have many effective treatments and strategies to help kids with ADHD better manage daily life, but this book will provide that equally important intervention: feeling understood. I love how this book helps parents create a deeper relationship with their kids so that the whole family can thrive." (Ari Tuckman, PsyD, MBA, author of More Attention, Less Deficit and Understand Your Brain, Get More Done)

“When I give presentations for parents of children with ADHD and executive skill challenges, my message to them is Most of these kids turn out fine! This book is an excellent blueprint for parents who want to make that happen. Dr. Saline is a skilled therapist who has learned to listen to her clients. This book teaches us to do the same.” (Peg Dawson, EdD, psychologist and author of Smart but Scattered)

So helpful!

I’ve struggle for years trying to get my hands around the ‘whys’ of my daughter’s behaviour. This book has given me a deeper understanding of what is actually happening in the household and structure to constructively deal with the challenges.

Highly recommend

My son was just diagnosed with ADHD and this book helped me to understand how his brain works differently. I really got insight from it and recommend it. I was also to relate my own thoughts and behaviors to the stories and information provided. I feel more empathy toward my son and am grateful this book did that for us.

Very informative

I love that the book also gives you parent’s thoughts along with the kids thoughts and how the author gives you examples of how to implement the 5C’s.

Great first book to read if you are new to ADHD

This book is very factual and filled with very good basic information to the new parent just realizing their kid has ADHD. I would not recommend it for those looking to dive deeper that are several years into the journey.

Excellent resource for parents, clinicians, and educators

As a mental health counselor who works with students with learning disabilities, I highly recommend this book for anyone who supports young people with ADHD. It is extremely comprehensive and covers many, if not most, areas where these children run into difficulty. Extremely practical with many strategies to use at home.

Very helpful

I myself have ADHD as does my daughter. I remember feeling just like these kids mentioned in this book and now like their parents, raising a child with ADHD. It was very insightful and helpful to know 1, I’m not alone and 2. Learn ways to help her cope (and myself).
