Publisher's summary

“You’re a vigilante in an argyle sweater”.

Straight-laced psychologist Tobias is an expert in the deviant behavior of others but a novice when it comes to his latest endeavor: Serial killer.

After years of high-profile kills and mentoring numerous other assassins, laid-back Soren lives his life in a state of semi-permanent vacation. He comes out of an early retirement to help out a friend, only to set off sparks with the renowned psychologist when they discover they’re hunting the same man.

One shaky truce and a whole lot of blood later, Soren has a new mentee in Tobias.

Soren finds Tobias and his dark impulses fascinating. Tobias finds Soren’s relaxed attitude infuriating. They have nothing in common except their ability to kill and chemistry neither can deny. But a kill list, a rage room, the Irish mob and the ghosts of their past all stand in the way of their happily ever after.

Head Games is a steamy, thrill ride of a romance with a HEA and no cliff-hangers. It features an uptight, sweater-loving psychologist with a taste for blood, and a soft spot for his murderous yorkie, the most zen contract killer to ever mosey the Earth, plenty of dark humor, and true love. Because even bad dudes deserve their soulmates. This is book three in the Wages of Sin series. Each book follows a different couple.

silly fun

Silly fun and my fave of the series. As separate characters, Tobias and Soren aren't complex or well-developed but the story's strengths and quick pace lies in their dynamic and how they explore their own personalities when confronted by the other's astuteness.

DiCosimo really nails Tobias's voice as he manages to convey nuances and subtle cadences to the character's more flat affect and unflappable demeanor. Overall though, not a fan of most of the voice choices.

Favorite of the series

+5 STARS!

I may be speechless. It’s been a long time since since I’ve read a book that completely overtook my mind. This was a masterpiece. So many questions, so many doubts, right and wrong, this books was simply AMAZING!

In book two we meet Dr. Tobias, and of course we are immediately taken by him, who would want to serve as a sound board for sociopaths and psychopaths? Well, a psychopath himself with murderer instincts. Enter Soren, we have seen and heard about him in the previous books, but nothing major, until now. Soren stole my heart, we was so authentic and quirky and crazy! He makes the perfect mentor for Toby, who’s ready start letting his inner killer come out to play.

This book was chilling, crazy, a big mind-f***, kinda sweet, and HOT AF!

100% recommend, plus we get more of Mal and Az which was a plus, love those guys. I do suggest reading the series in order though.

Audio narration 10/10

Twisted, but incredible

Oof... if I'm going to be honest, this was a twisted, gut churning, funny, and absolutely incredible book. There were times when I thought to myself 'if this gets any more twisted I'm going to have to stop listening', but it never crossed a line for me. I would definitely recommend reading trigger warnings in the front of the book before you purchase this, because it gets intense but it is so worth it, and in my opinion it's the best of the series. the whole series is a little twisted, but this one hit slightly differently for me. maybe it's getting in the mind of Tobias and seeing his thought processes and what he goes through to make sure that he doesn't give in to compulsions, and after, how he channels those compulsions into something if not truly positive in the real world, positive in this series. Liam did an absolutely impeccable job, I love his voices and I love him for this series. despite the darker themes, I truly enjoyed this book, and I am so excited for the next one!

it was okay

I'm a huge Neve Wilder fan (4-5* every book of hers Ive listened to) and I could see some of her style in this, but her signature scorching hot sex scenes were missing for most of it. The majority of sex scenes were off page. Telling us they're about to start and then when they're done or, or tell us after the facts that it happened (like "fyi they had video sex yesterday).
Neve Wilder always does an incredible job balancing the sexual and emotional sides of her romances stories. We get descriptive sex scenes for almost every sexual encounter between her MCs but so much emotion packed in that it never feels like "too much sex" or "empty sex to make up for lack or emotional development ". That's one of the things I'm so blown away by with her writing is that she manages to pack as much spice as she does into her book but balancing it perfectly so its not just straight erotica, whereas this story only had a couple descriptive, short scenes and it made it less enjoyable for me, especially with 1 of the MCs being a virgin and someone who's never had a relationship of any kind with another person. I wanted to see his experiences especially details on his sexual awakening. It also wrapped up too quickly. There was really no transition between both questioning being together seriously and HEA.

Outside of that though I really did like the rest of the story. That's just a big thing for me. If you're someone who doesn't really care for descriptive sex scenes you'd probably love this.
