Publisher's summary

Stranded on a hostile planet, one man finds himself thrust into a fight for survival that could decide the fate of an entire world . . .

As an engineer on the arkship Pilgrim-9, bound for the Tau Ceti solar system, Morgan Hall thought his life would revolve around maintaining and repairing the ship and supporting the needs of the five thousand colonists aboard. But when he’s roused early from a 240-year stasis, he’s confronted with chaos.

Along with his shipmates, Morgan is brought down to a planet teeming with peril. Forced to fight for their survival without any of their tech to hand, they must adapt quickly to overcome countless threats in a world where magic is as real as science. Eventually, they begin to create a new existence for themselves.

But just as they’re beginning to feel at home, Morgan and his fellow humans discover the planet is already inhabited by intelligent life-forms—and this native species is cunning, powerful, and all too lethal . . .

Fun story, but narrator makes it hard to enjoy

I read this book originally when it came out and really enjoyed it. Fun new entry to the litrpg genre. I have to say though that unfortunately this narrator makes it hard to enjoy this for the single reason that every female voice he does he gives a nasal quality to their voice, making each and every one instantly annoying and dislikeable. don't know if it was a conscious choice or just this narrator lacking the range to do female voices well, but I had a hard time.

Ok

Good litrpg but towards the end the CW terribly written romance ruined it for me. You can remove about 6-7 hours worth of the book because of this distraction. Everything else was well thought out.

Whoa!

This book right here is hugely entertaining! I found myself eager to know what happens next. No crazy twist in my opinion but great world/character building and interesting situations! Plus the narrator gears one of the best I’ve heard! Overall I loved this book and can’t wait till the next one!

Great take on the genre

The start of a terrific sci fi, turns into one of the best lit rpg fantasy novels currently available.

Boring

Honestly this book felt like it could have went into a few directions but chose the most boring avenues to follow. I’m only roughly 8 hours in but most of that is boring side quests and choices that makes the story feel lesser. For one the MC doesn’t ask the important questions or brushes a lot of them under the rug and for me it makes me insane when no one is asking the right questions. But the point where this book lost me is the MC choosing his class, with everything he knows about his situation like having a high energy score, having a unknown core, and other advantages he could have seized but chooses the boring tank class that may help the people around him but not understand the world he’s in. To me this book was a let down, don’t waste your credit on this when other titles with the same premise are way better.

pretty good story

Character progression is good. The story interested me. The performance of the narrator? It's not that great. When it comes to male voices, he has a good range. He keeps his characters separate. His female characters are atrocious. I mean, unless you enjoy listening to nails on a chalkboard. They ALL seem to be whining every time they "speak." I am having really hard time trying to push through, and I'm only a couple of hours in.

Surprisingly Good

I'll admit it's always a risk with a litrpg but this is a decent story with a great narration. The author builds dynamic characters and doesn't have too many stereotypical evil characters. Every character has a little more depth than just plot needs. Excited for book two.
