Publisher's summary

From the author of Falling with Folded Wings comes a furious new fantasy series, in which a teenage, hard-case Earthling tries to earn some class . . .

Victor can’t wait to get the hell out of high school, go to the local community college on a sports scholarship, and start his own life. But that’s all put on hold when he enters his abuela’s house and somehow ends up stepping into a world unlike anything he’s ever known, filled with fantastical meta-humans; walking, talking devils; and other creatures one usually needs some serious pharmaceuticals to see.

Fanwath is no dream, though. In fact, it’s a nightmare. Sold into slavery as a pit fighter, Victor quickly learns his new home is controlled by the “System” and the only way to get ahead is to fight, kill, and collect the precious “Energy” that means the difference between a long life and an early grave. And according to his stats, Victor’s starting out at a solid zero.

Lucky for him, no one in this world has ever met his kind before—which means they have no idea what he’s really capable of. But they’re about to find out . . .

The first volume of the hit LitRPG adventure series—with more than 750,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Worth the credit!

Good job all around on this one. Different approach to litrpg where it is not stats and harems. Some minor plot holes but the fun ride made up for it. Biggest plus is the MC is not a emo whiner. Really enjoyed it.

Gem in the rough

We’ll written and consistent characterization, good action and a nice system. I’m very picky and will drop a book as soon as an author stars flip flopping on personalities to further plot points, there was none of that and I have complaints.

Cool new to me series

Cool unique character with lots of growth possibilities. Funny with lots of combat and different locations and unique magic system. Very much enjoyed.

Good one

First time i have heard of this narrator and well he does an incredible job here, Now i actually liked Victor but it seems the author doesn't because every time Victor starts to get something going the author throws a tragedy and/or betrayal Victor's way, i legit stopped caring about any character not named Victor because they will definitely die or get left behind without knowing what happens to them, honestly the obky reasons I finished this was the good narration and the fights and im unsure if i will be buying book 2. not a fan of stories were authors seem to get a hard on every time they cause tragedy to their MCs l.

A satisfying listen with future potential

It was a little rough (the writing i mean, not the pit fighting) for the first 3 hours, but then settled down into a more fluid story. I was a little annoyed that the MC seemed to impulsively put points into his stats without a lot of consideration, but otherwise he does show some development based on his effort. I prefer my books to focus on 1. an engaging story (with an overarching problem driving the story forward), 2. fun characters that cooperatively kick ass and grow together over time, 3. a well done magic system and 4. cool equipment/gear. This book had 3 out of the 4. It had an engaging story, moved forward and kept me wanting more and contained interesting skills and equipment which I always enjoy. I would like to see more character development and teammate cooperation/development. A solid 3-4 stars for me. Worth the listen and leaves it up for even better progression and world exploration in the next book.

enjoyed it

My first Rpg book and I enjoyed it. The story didn't stagnate as the story moved forward. Easy listening for the road.
