Publisher's summary

Gamers everywhere share a hidden desire deep in their hearts - that their mundane, humdrum world be replaced by the ones they play in.

When freakish storms envelope the Earth, people start disappearing without a trace. Wild theories abound: Is it aliens, spontaneous combustion, or perhaps quantum entanglement? The only ones who might know are those who have vanished.

An average group of gamers is setting up to start a new campaign. The storms rage across the world, but they only care about the game they are about to start. Little do they know that they would be next to disappear from the face of the Earth.

Shifted to a different world, the group of friends find that the gamer’s dream they had always harbored has come true, but not in the way they would have hoped. They are not there as themselves, but as the level one characters they had been preparing to play. Standing on a road with smoke rising in the distance, they would soon be given their first quest - but not the one they would have chosen.

Note: This series contains dark themes including, but not limited to, suicide, torture, slavery, and worse.

Average

Nothing really stands out about this. Some rude, foulmouthed jerks are magically transported to a LitRPG world following TTRPG mechanics - the mechanics are different from D&D, but the spells are all just renamed versions of D&D spells. There isn't much in the way of character development or an overarching plot. I mean, of course there's the whole question of how and why they were transported to that world, but I'm not confident that question will actually get answered later in the series.
It was fine, I didn't hate listening to it, but I'm not motivated to continue listening to the series.

Super good also super underrated.

A really good book about a table top group that gets transported to the world they were about to play. One of the authors earlier works which means it's slightly predictable but at the same time it's really good. He has done amazing things in his other series I kind of hope that this book gains popularity as he does and that he'll revisit it in the future.

Relatable and realistic! A must for your library!

If you are looking for a totally believable (gamelit?) approach to an adventure, look nowhere else. The dialogue is witty, entertaining and their strengths are well earned. Travis Baldree is an amazing narrator, you cannot go wrong with him. The only con with this is the cover art, It could have been better.

plan to continue with this story.

enjoyable, though profanity laden. a very well done, with a few gamelit Easter eggs.
crude humor is very rife in the first chapter, and periodically makes its way back in, naturally, as the characters stay reletively true. less, as the mishaps of the world make them more solemn, but ever present. I view this as a plus for the writing/consistance/development, and a minus OVERALL for my *personal taste.* I admit its well done.
I will say only that while reading and listening, one understands immediately that the stakes are real, that none of the companion characters are mindless adventure loving tag-a-longs, and decisions have consequense. not everyone can adjust to massive upheaval, and there come a point where those who have managed to adjust somewhat have to double down on a dangerous goal to salvage some of whats lost,

absolutely intruiged by what I've seen of their progression system. would stick around out of curiosity even if I hadnt also ended up enjoying the story!

Enjoyable read.

Solidly written if maybe a bit short in feel.
Character development really doesn’t feel established until almost the end of the book; so patience is needed.
I’m looking forward to the next book, good foundation here and a good addition to your library.

great story, it's a little slow but great for a first in the series to set the story into motion!
