Story
Fritz Leiber was one of the greatest science fiction and fantasy writers of the mid-twentieth century. One of his frequent themes was "technology gone wrong." In "The Creature from Cleveland Depths", a writer and his wife refuse to move below-ground after the cold-war gets hot. However, he still serves as a consultant for a below-ground company seeking to come up with new "gadgets." His latest product idea is called "The Tickler," a device that is with you at all times to remind you of appointments and "suggests" little motivations to improve efficiency.

Story
"The Creature from Cleveland Depths" is a modern tale of an inner-directed sorcerer and an outer-directed sorcerer's apprentice by Fritz Leiber. The background of the story is the cold war, which got hot. Most of the people moved to live underground, where they needed to continue innovation to counter the enemy. But they also needed the aboveground people’s ideas for that. Here come our heroes: a writer and his wife, the abovegrounders. Their last common development with the undergrounders has frightening implications.

Story
One of the remarkable things about Fritz Leiber is the ease with which he writes any kind of story. Science fiction, fantasy, weird: You name it and he's done them all. Just think of "Gather, Darkness", "Scylla's Daughter", and (in the old Unknown) ''Smoke Ghost", and you'll see what we mean. In that last story parlicularly Leiber helped to modernize the tale of terror, to take it out of haunted castles and moldering graveyards and put it into the dark, nightmarish streets of a modern city. ''I'm Looking for Jeff", written much later, belongs in this same category.

Journey into the treacherous world of Lankhmar alongside the fearless duo of Fafhrd the Barbarian and the Gray Mouser in Fritz Leiber Jr.'s novelette, "Thieves' House." Originally published in the pulp magazine Unknown Worlds in 1943, this gripping tale follows our protagonists as they navigate the dangerous headquarters of the Guild of Thieves and Murderers, as well as underground catacombs filled with intrigue and peril. "I was 100 miles from Nowhere - and I mean that literally - when I spotted this girl out of the corner of my eye. I'd been keeping an extra lookout because I still expected the other undead bugger left over from the murder party at Nowhere to be stalking me." In a Post-apocalyptic world, the few people left must be strong. And must not hesitate to kill. Of course, killing another Deathlander was one of the chief pleasures and urges of all the solitary wanders in this vast wasteland. Kill and kill again.

What happens when a swindler meets a science fiction fan? If you are not a science fiction enthusiast yourself you may take for granted that what appeared to happen to George Mercer would be the answer, but is that so certain? Fritz Lieber, very much a part of the history of science fiction, and fantasy raises an interesting possibility in this story of a science fiction con man.

Story
"No Great Magic" fits into author Fritz Leiber's dizzying view of history as a battlefield in constant change. He explores the idea in his "Change War" novel, "The Big Time", and this work is part of the action. It works by itself as the tale of poor Greta, a girl taken in "like a pet" by a company of Shakespearean actors. She lives in the dressing room of their little theater in New York's Central Park. Leiber - an actor's son - brings an insider's eye to life behind the curtain. But Greta begins to doubt the curtain is real.
