In an alternate New Orleans caught in the tangle of the American Civil War, the wall-scaling girl named Creeper yearns to escape the streets for the air - in particular, by earning a spot onboard the airship Midnight Robber. Creeper plans to earn Captain Ann-Marie's trust with information she discovers about a Haitian scientist and a mysterious weapon he calls "The Black God's Drums". Story
Yes, there are more tales from the Black Hart Library and this effort was titled accordingly. You might ask, “And what will follow this? Even More Tales?” Stay tuned friends. When we last saw the Professor, he had just finished crashing an RDAS (Royal Dirigible Airship Service) airship following their encounter with the perfidious Livonians. Certainly, Wing Commander Wendell was not pleased by the damage (from an insurance perspective, he totaled it) to her very nice dirigible, and she was last seen puffing agitatedly on her Peterson briar pipe all the while waving hands and shouting ...

Story
This is a Mid-Century Modern science-based novel. In point of fact, Tales from the Black Hart is the foundational series of novels in the Mid-Century Modern school of literature and architecture. What then, you ask, constitutes, and characterizes the key MCM attributes? Examples please, Professor? Can a dirigible be MCM? Certainly. Even more-so if it is painted like a Faberge Egg. Are pink and black bathroom subway tile MCM? Sadly, yes. The Savinelli 614 Hungarian style tobacco pipe? Rustic finish? Of course, my friend. What about kindly elderly mad-scientist professors shuffling about in ...

Story
The Black Hart Library – Its not that the Livonians are inherently evil, really it is only that the residents of that small duchy tend to hire themselves out to the lowest bidder, and if the Livonians are in for a penny, why then the of course the Grüsonians (Gruesonians) are in for a pound. Stirling. Perhaps the evil Doctor Minneapolis St. Paul, (so named because her parents thought Minneapolis a far better city than Madison on even the worst of days), along with various immense financial entities are behind the perfidy of the Livonians et al. It is entirely possible that Professor ...

Story
Any reasonably exciting scientific endeavor entails some level of risk, how else do we explain so many research laboratories mysteriously exploding, or just completely disappearing, leaving gaping holes in the ground that will eventually become a rather nice pond for racing small model boats on sunny days. And while we are at it, what is the relationship between soaring airships and instantaneously vanishing laboratories? Thin air mate! Unusually suspicious minds might suspect that that our Professor, aka Professor Bajusz (mustache) to his increasingly shrinking circle of friends, is the ...

Story
Galvanic Winds. Unimaginable power of the electrikus drawn, as if by magic, from nothingness. A tremulous sky punctuated with hulking grey and black dirigibles. The introduction of the Whelti Warbler into the technological mix. High stakes adventures battling Livonian pirates high above the earth. Yes, all of this and more! The Professor, obsessed with the calculations emanating from the Badger Babbage Engine anchored to bedrock with high-tensile steel bolts down in the Augusta Mill’s basement, powered by the grist mill’s slowly turning water wheel. The flat leather drive belts with ...

Story
London in the 19th century of the Second Universe seems the perfect refuge for Penelope Victoria Steele and Elizabeth. But instead of proving to be the green and pleasant England that they had so hoped for, the pair quickly find themselves embroiled in the machinations of mysterious figures, shadowy cults, and a book that promises to reveal the master plan of an alien enemy. Worse, Penelope discovers a side to herself that she had never known existed and becomes unsure if she, or it, will triumph.

Story
What happens when a pursuer can’t be outdistanced, can’t be misled, and can’t be killed. Lark, a city scout, must confront those questions when the demonic creation of the dark scientist Baer Bore sets his sights on him. Can steam and powder overcome the flesh of a hound that cannot die? N. Jacob Wright’s brilliant pacing and steampunk sensibilities make this tale as intriguing as it is horrifying. Why the beast had chosen him and his horse the scout didn’t know. He knew only that like those before him the beast could not be killed by even the most well placed of shots.

Story
On an Earth that is very much like our own, the civilizations of ancient man have been crushed; the giant glaciers that cover the northern part of the globe continue, even now, moving ever south, grinding the remains of the sky-touching cities of men beneath them. This Ice Age created warfare between two mighty nations, and in the midst of this mechanized slaughter, a virulent influenza plague ultimately killed most of the human population of the Earth within just one year.
