Commander David Bryce is scheduled to lead a routine re-supply run for the Orbital Development Group (ORB) to the fledgling colony on Mars. This short story of unmentionable horror by H.P. Lovecraft is told by an unnamed named narrator (in this case Mike Vendetti) a friend of a mad scientist scientist named Crawford Tillinghast who is invited into Tillinghast's laboratory. Tillinghast may be mad, but he is intelligent, and he has invented a machine that affects a person's pineal gland and allows them to witness the hordes of strange and horrific creatures defying description that live invisibly among us. Fortunately they don't bother us unless the machine is running, and they are discovered.

The story is told from the first-person perspective of an unnamed narrator and details his experiences with a scientist named Crawford Tillinghast. Tillinghast creates an electronic device that emits a resonance wave, which stimulates an affected person's pineal gland, thereby allowing them to perceive planes of existence outside the scope of accepted reality. Sharing the experience with Tillinghast, the narrator becomes cognizant of a translucent, inter-dimensional environment that overlaps our own recognized reality.
