"I wanted to help people who knew that fast forward so many years, I'd end up helping people, but in a different capacity. Right. Like, not as a social worker, but still using that passion to help others."

Rashida Clarke is a Hampton native, full-time entrepreneur, and real estate rock star. She has an extensive background in community outreach and youth engagement, and has been a real estate agent for eight years.

    2. The difference between real estate agent and Realtor, and what a brokerage is.

"You've got to have some marketing money. You got to have some money to pay your bills. You got some money to put gas in your car."

    Rashida's Major Key:
Reach out to an agent wherever you are and have coffee with them or go have lunch. Ask them about their experience in the market and use that to make a more informed decision.

  • The Journey to Career Joy with Mary Adeyemi
    Nov 22 2022

    Support the show

In this episode, Kristina and Mary talked all things career progression as two industry sisters who support each other from a distance. Mary's work in the UK  is aligned with the work Kristina does here in the US and the gems dropped in this episode help individuals at all stages of their career. Check out the full episode!

    HIGHLIGHTS:

Mary Mosope Adeyemi is a passionate, people-oriented, and purpose-driven woman who successfully walks the tightrope of business and social pursuits. She is an award-winning investment professional with a long tenure working with global investment banks. Alongside her functional role, Mary has spent thousands of hours developing, executing, and managing talent recruitment and training programs, focusing on early career professionals. This passion for personal development and equitable career growth led her to found her social-first organization, viSHEbility, and write her debut book: Visible Strengths.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

    1. How to combine multiple passions into one career
    2. Why we need a variety of mentors and sponsors who may look and sound very different from us
    3. The key steps to realizing the beauty of “career joy”

    QUOTABLES:

    • “Mentors can look and sound very different. They don't have to always look like you. If they do, great, and you're able to get something out of them...fantastic. If they don't, that's okay, too. The fact is that as human beings we're more alike than we think actually and so the moment you can give space for people to contribute to your life and be open to receiving that then the more sort of places you can connect. I fundamentally believe in humanity and that people are constantly probably more looking for how to help rather than how to hurt.”
    • “Unfortunately, we’ve turned forming relationships (or networking) as a transaction, but it’s about finding points of connection.
    • “Finding career joy really is being in a place where you’re using what’s most natural to you to drive forward the agenda of your organization to contribute value in a way that is super tangible. But also to do that in a way that you are growing yourself and you’re also achieving your own goals.”
    • “Many of us are constantly living out somebody else’s life, unfortunately.”

    MARY’S MAJOR KEY:

“Self-Awareness! Just know yourself and to thyself, be true.” Who are you and how are you going to show up as your full self at home and at work?

  • Sofiat Abdulrazaaq: From Tucker High to Tech CEO
    Nov 8 2022

In this podcast episode, Kristina interviews Sofiat (Sofie) Abdulrazaaq, the co-founder and CEO of Goodfynd, a payments platform for food trucks, helping foodies find their favorite food trucks while helping food truck owners (usually BIPOC immigrants) grow their business. Sofie is one of a small number of Black women founders who have raised over $1 million (in fact, she’s raised over $3 million), and she’s just getting started. What does it take to be a successful Black female CEO in the fintech industry? Get your notepads ready and check out the full episode!

"You have to be comfortable being yourself in spite of not seeing yourself."

    HIGHLIGHTS:
Sofie is the CEO and co-founder of Gooodfynd, a fintech company that provides an app for food truck vendors and patrons. She is a lawyer by training and has used her skills to build a company that is focused on privacy and data security.

    This is Sofie's story...

She is the CEO of a fintech company and her career path wasn't linear at all. She initially thought she was going to be a lawyer, but really found a love for fintech through her first job at Wells Fargo. She went to law school, but really leaned into classes that were about tech in the law, privacy in the law,

In this episode, you will learn the following:
    1. How Sofie's education in the legal field has helped her in the fintech space
    2. What it is like being a Black woman in the white male dominated fintech industry
    3. The importance of mentorship, both at home and in the workplace, and the distinction between mentorship and sponsorship

    QUOTABLES:
"I'm not going to be outworked. I'm not going to be outmaneuvered."
"I know I'm going to bring my A-game no matter what!"
"It doesn't matter that 99% of the people that are in this space don't look like me because I'm going to come to the table anyway."
"I'm not going to feel othered. I'm not going to feel less than."
"You can't reflect to me energy that I'm not giving you."
"It has been a welcomed experience because I welcome myself."
"We have to reframe the narrative and think about what makes us powerful and I do think that our family units is one of them."

    SOFIE'S MAJOR KEYS:

    • You need to not only invest in the knowledge of your company, but you need to invest in understanding how to translate that into VC.
    • You do not want a yes from the wrong person! Every time you get a NO, think of that as a gift.
    • Go at it the Nike way - Just Do It! The best advice is not to take any advice. Be informed, but do not be obsessed with anyone's pathway.
