Also known as the "How Not to Die Guy", he pulls from his vast knowledge and experience in the field after 23 years and pays it forward to help others keep safe - he teaches everyday people how to appropriately look after and protect themselves from everyday threats. Damian teaches how to upgrade and downgrade responses depending on the situation and how this boils down to proper training and exposure to danger in a SAFE and FRIENDLY learning environment. 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄... 🏆❤🔥 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧: Shaun Sargent of Co-Founder of STAIT.  With Shaun and Sam being absolutely awesome caring purpose-driven humans... STAIT has come on board as a sponsor of the "Mandy Gibbons Podcast Show - Resilience For Men"... and sponsoring my book "RESILIENT MAN - FIREPIT"... which will be released later this year. Shaun and Sam, the Founders of Stait have been incredibly supportive both of my work with helping Men build resilient lives.  In today's episode I chat with Shaun about his own resilience story...  How his upbringing and life experiences instilled strength and values that have helped him get through challenges in business, relationships and personal growth. STAIT, Shaun and Sam are strong supporters of Veterans, including the Veteran Games... We share more about that in today's podcast. Approaching his 50s, and busy with a demanding corporate career, Shaun was aware that ageing might start to affect his performance day-to-day. Whilst most people might consider this a normal part of the aging process, Shaun chose differently. Why give up on feeling and being your best just because you're getting older? As a busy CEO, Shaun had always been determined to outperform himself each day.  Having failed to find a product to support his health in the way he needed, it was his wife and co-founder Samantha "Sam" who suggested he should create something for himself. Which is exactly what he did. Enjoy today's episode, legends! GOLD ON TODAY'S show...🔥❤️ ------------------------------ 🏆 Shaun shares his story of being born in the rural part of England, he was exposed to hard work by both his father and grand father. And was exposed to people doing epic shit from an early age.  Shaun's Mum passed away when he was 17 years old... which changed his life from a happy family life... to this Dad struggling with not knowing how to grieve... which lead to issues with Shaun and his father... and Shaun leaving home.  It shaped Shaun's life from an early age and that no-one was coming to save him. 🏆 Shaun went onto university... then became an accountant,  having his own practice. Got married and had children.   🏆 Shaun talks about how he found life at the bottom of the bottle at the age of 35 years old, his marriage breaking down and him and his wife separated.  🏆 The owner of a company that Shaun was working with asked him to attend a health event in the United States. Shaun met Sam in Vegas at an event, they became friends. And didn't catch up again until a bit later... which is a pretty epic story...  🏆 I asked Shaun to share that story of what led him to getting together with Sam (Shaun and Sam have been married for 12 years now)... Mainly because I was curious as they're a super aligned and amazing couple. :) 🏆 Shaun and Sam started traveling for work together... You can watch or listen to the podcast for the rest of the details.  🏆 Shaun shared how the universe gives you what you need, not what you want. 🏆 We talk about the inner strength and fortitude that Shaun and Sam have as individuals and together... Communication, their vision... 🏆 Shaun talks about relationships and if they nurture each person in the relationship... and is the unit stronger than the individuals. 🏆 I ask Shaun about his passion for health... he grew up with physically strong Men in his family...And spent years being around weights and gyms...  🏆 When Shaun started playing American football, he attended old school bodybuilding gyms...and studied all the bodybuilding greats. He felt like he belonged there. 🏆 We discuss how STAIT came about... This is a fantastic story of how things fall into place at the exact right time.  🏆 Shaun talks about testosterone, health and performance. Stress and cortisol levels.  🏆 How STAIT is trying to educate people on taking care of your testosterone, stress and health. 🏆 Working with young men in special forces and Veterans with PTSD to reduce stress and cortisol levels. 🏆 Supporting Veterans and Veteran Games.   🏆 Resilience and American Football and the mentorship Shaun received when he played. And how it shaped him, surrounding his life with people doing incredible things.  🏆 Resilience in Shaun's own life now. And his approach to it. And remembering how great we really are. • Mandy Gibbons Podcast Show... 🏆❤🔥 Guest: Barry Zworestine
    May 6 2023
𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄... 🏆❤🔥 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧: Barry Zworestine, Combat Medic, Psychologist, Author “Which Way Is Your Warrior Facing- an operational manual for current serving and veterans transitioning into civilian life”.  Barry's a registered Psychologist with 20 years experience providing compassionate and relevant support to Australian Veterans and their families impacted by military service.  As a Combat Veteran Barry uses his operational experience creating language, providing tools and insights to facilitate effective transitioning into civilian life.  In 2022 Barry published his book “Which Way Is Your Warrior Facing - an operational manual for current serving and veterans transitioning into civilian life”.  Barry's core vision is that no Veteran should have to come home to die. Side note: I absolutely loved this episode... We covered a lot of ground...Whether you're currently serving, a Veteran, a family member, or in the field of supporting those who have served... I highly recommend you watch or listen to this episode.  Barry's insights, experience and love for supporting his "brothers" is freaking beautiful.  GOLD ON TODAY'S show... 🏆 Barry shares his story of being born and growing up in what was then called Southern Rhodesia. Playing a lot of sports, then went onto University, spent 4 years becoming a teacher and decided that wasn't for him.   🏆 Barry was then called up in 1976 to the Rhodesian Army, at 23 years old, did an advanced medic course, and was transferred to his unit on the Mozambique border and was allocated to a group of three others, High Density Force Operations, flooding areas in 4 man sticks and patrolling from 7 to 14 days, in areas where terrorists walked from 30 to 300.   🏆 On leaving the Army, Barry went back to University and became a Hearing and Speech Correctionist, working in that field. Then headed to Australia, working with Austistic children and travelling, learning about Australia and country life. 🏆 He left Australia, went to England, worked for a mountain bike company... Went to Israel, started and built from the ground up the British Council English Language Center, with 5 other people. Where Barry started doing Marathons and cycling through the desert on his mountain bike. 🏆 Barry left and then went onto to study Psychology, completed a 2 year Masters, and internship. And got into Ultra Marathons. 🏆 In 2000 Barry came back to Australia. Started a private practice, and was contracted to work with Veterans. And has been working with Veterans for 20 years. And learning from them. And learnt that there was so much wisdom in the territory of Veterans that wasn't being drawn on in the healing of Veterans.   🏆 Barry developed a way of talking to Veterans, that's based on operational territory, supporting them as they're transitioning into different situations in life, empowering them so they have these skill sets.  🏆 In the military they say "never leave anyone behind"... Barry helps Veterans not to leave themselves behind. Go back get yourself, bring back the positive qualities and heal the wounds, then combine the positive qualities with the civilian.  🏆 We talk about Barry's incredible book: “Which Way Is Your Warrior Facing- an operational manual for current serving and veterans transitioning into civilian life”. The book invites you to go on a journey to both operationalise your territory, define your map and orientate your compass as you learn to transition into civilian life.  And embodies the core lesson that all change requires the ability to become comfortable in the face of discomfort, and help guide you forward as you bridge towards a stronger sense of identity and purpose as well as form a strong connection with those you care about.  🏆 Barry and I talk about identity. And feeling stuck in that. "Is your backpack weighing you down?". And discusses settling the shame that Veterans don't like to talk about... so they can feel freedom.  🏆 We talk about the challenges Veterans experience when transitioning into civilian life. And how Barry helps Veterans powerfully navigate through that. 🏆 Barry shares his insights into the small steps. And the importance of finding and choosing discomfort that's manageable, creating stillness... And gives the example of a Sniper. 🏆 And gives amazing examples translating so much of what we discussed into operational language. Including how your body is your weapon and how are you taking care of it. 🏆 Earning the respect, listening, understanding and trust of Veterans when supporting them in Post Traumatic Growth. 🏆 Why "avoidance" works against thriving.  🏆 We discuss depression, grief, despair, feeling defeated, suffering, pain, darkness "the long dark night of the soul"... And moving and stepping out of that.  🏆 Living the ...
