Episode 256 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a in-depth interview with two-time NCAA Champion Matt Davis from the University of Denver.

In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Davis takes us through the highlight -- and one highlight reel save in particular -- of a spectacular run up to and throughout the playoffs that included a .956 save percentage overall and a eye-popping .979 save percentage in the Frozen Four. Davis digs into the mental side of the game and tools he used to manage the spotlight on college hockey's biggest stage, as well as his technical evolution with DU goalie coach Ryan Massa, including advice on controlling rebounds without using your hands. In our Parents Segment, presented by the Stop It Goaltending U app, we talk about wanting your kids work harder, and finding a balance between proper motivation and pushing the wrong way.

In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Pickard shares some insights into an admittedly surprising return to the NHL this season with the Oilers, and how he was able to make it a successful 23-game run after only playing 12 NHL games over the previous four seasons combined. Pickard shares advice on everything from managing the transition to a new team, to handling long stretches with the play at the other end and low-shot games, two facts of life behind the Oilers, and how he stays sharp in practice facing Connor McDavid.

In our Parents Segment, presented by the Stop It Goaltending U app, we are joined by Maria Mountain of Goalie Training Pro for some advice on what age to start off-ice training.

All that, plus a trip to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports to look at 3 new CCM kneepad options.

  • Episode 254 with recently retired Stanley Cup-winning goalie Pavel Francouz.
    May 5 2024

Episode 254 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features recently retired Stanley Cup-winning goalie Pavel Francouz.

In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Francouz explains the knee injury and thought process that led to his retirement after missing all season with the Colorado Avalanche, then walks us through his unique path from the Czech Republic to the KHL and finally to the NHL with the Avalanche. It was a windy path, with plenty of twists, turns and tough decisions along the way, including the choice to come to North America despite lucrative KHL offers and having to totally rebuild key parts of his game once he arrived. But it paid off with a Stanley Cup in 2022, which he also talks about, and a career .919 save percentage in the NHL.

The interview is loaded with great insights into the mindset, technical and tactical evolution of goalie who came over late but quickly gained many admirers among NHL goalie coaches.

In our Parents Segment, presented by the Stop It Goaltending U app, we talk about whether your young goalie should play other sports in the summer, with plenty of NHL goalie examples.

All that, plus a trip to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports to look at a new Warrior G7 line.
