Friction of the Autistic Flesh

By: Dov Doviak
  • Summary

  • This is my stream of conscious audio journal to help me absorb, process and internalize how my brain functions and how to embrace who I am rather than running from myself. I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 30 (34 now), I work freelance in film/TV production, I shoot/edit my own films, I love metal music, and I was hit by a car walking on the sidewalk last year (30+ broken bones, 4 surgeries, 2 full joint replacements, severe nerve damage on half my body, and multiple organ lacerations severe enough to keep me in the ICU for 3 weeks). This is an unscripted, stream of conscious audio journal I’m making in order to help me  process, absorb, and internalize how my recent Autism diagnosis at the age of 30 contextualizes my past struggles, gives a framework for future success, and benefits my overall mindset tremendously.

Here, I unpack the Empathizing-Systemizing Theory and how ridiculously accurate the Systemizing portion is to every aspect of my life. From interpersonal interactions, to working on TV sets, to brushing my teeth, understanding Systemizing conceptually sheds light on how I process every corner of my reality...
