Ep127 - VUCA leadership, with Dan Silberberg

  • Summary

  • In Episode 127, I speak again with Thought Leader and Visionary Dan Silberberg around the evolving role of leadership in a world of disruption. There’s a shift from focusing solely on productivity to valuing intelligence as the key competitive advantage. Multiple areas of disruption can be described with the VUCA framework. A leader’s full time job is global volatility. Another full time job is global uncertainty and unpredictability. Another full time job is unraveling complexity. And then the last one, just in case you didn't have enough to deal with, is ambiguity. The traditional hierarchical model is insufficient for dealing with such complexities. Dan advocates for an ecosystem approach where leaders become facilitators rather than top-down decision-makers. To be a great leader requires critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and lifelong learning. We need authentic organizational values, hiring based on cultural fit, personal authenticity in interviews. Leaders need to adapt to the rapidly changing landscape by fostering innovation, embracing ndiversity, and building trust within their organizations.
