At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. The Founders were the first marked, and they used those powers to build kingdoms, subjugate the land, and enrich themselves. They will not suffer another to join their ranks. Lost in a world with levels, stats, and monsters, Hal fights to survive in an unforgiving land, and to escape execution from its rulers. Ingenuity and courage won’t be enough. With marked powers he doesn’t understand, he’s easy prey for all the goblins, bandits, aberrations, and foul monsters that plague the realm. A murder trial ...inside a video game???
Why are they trying to setup a government? It's a game,
Why are we listening a judicial hearing inside a LitRPG story? It's still a f***ing game.
Players respawn in the game. Ergo, why is there any need of a trial?
It's not like the game world became the real world in this story. The ppl in the game know that they're in a game.
So why wud any of this matter to anyone??? It was like listening to CSPAN.
Also, didn't MC beat the BIG Baddie in book 2 and thereby win rights to the city?
Shouldn't the city just be his outright? Why is there even a conversation being had about who should rule?
Furthermore, listening to the inner thoughts of the MC is annoying af, He contradicts himself in almost every other sentence. One second he's all zen and the next second he wants to bash someone's skull in cuz he doesn't like them.
I don't even know where to begin about his girl drama. I DON'T CARE AT ALL ...it adds nothing to the story, TRASH!!!
Overall, I feel like a potentially good story went off the rails and into some place I don't have any interest in seeing.
Lastly ...the narrator mispronounces "mob" as "mobe"
How can you narrate a book based on a video game and not know what a mob is????

This went down hill fast
Let's make it very clear for everyone. This MC is fighting for the chance to be a side piece once she gets married. Think about this he then betrays his long standing friend for her, he also thinks might makes right but only when his girlfriend is leading it. He kills for her, but if his former friend kills people he's angry about it, why because of Victoria.
I also don't truly understand why he also gave up on the best chance for the best outcome by giving up time control. He thinks it's him being controlled by someone else to be able to control his mind, but every combat training says otherwise. Every military training, special operations and self help books says just the same, control the mind and the body will follow.
Control the mind and the body will follow, but this guy doesn't get that. He said it's weakness to be able to truly control your own mind at its highest levels. I would like Apollos Thorne to meet and speak with David Goggins the beast of the mind.
Let's be clear the MC is clearly honey pot and chasing the female Victoria, like a dog in heat as she uses him. He doesn't see how much he's limiting himself because of her and has settled for a side piece position. He also seems more like a naive child where she allows him close, to keep him under control. The line in the book where her guard said she will go on to marry a strong prince who doesn't care for her but you can stay by her side as her support makes it clear that he's in the friend zone. Victoria also said the same thing, where she only wants him as a friend and he's been used.
This is the last book in the series I'm listening to because this is just for child, with a happy outcome. Truly trash.

Meh, lame
Well there is no more, "do you even lift bro". It is now dumb talk with to much stupid moral bs crap. Nobody wants to read a book about fake people making fake debates about fake problems. DO SOMETHING. That is what you scream half of this book as the characters do NOTHING just talk or spew blah blah blah nobody cares DO SOMETHING. If you want to read a book where the anime side character who explains everything is the main character and the side character and is every character and none of them will shut up and actual do anything. THIS is that book. I will not be buying the next one. I will be getting a refund on this junk.

Apollos Thornes best book yet
let me just say I've liked all of Apollo's books, but this one is so far my favorite. I'm gonna try from saying any spoilers here. Yes again there is a lot of training although it is more mixed with action. hes not just grinding and training the whole time. yes he still is training, but there are a lot of story relevant events to fill in the gaps. also this book takes place over the rest of the year in freedom so theres a lot more progression. So if you read the other books you'd better get this one, if you havent read the other books you better get to it!;)

Wow... Apollos... like... wow...
I have liked Thorne for a while. His novels are entertaining and well paced. But I would not saw I would have mentioned him in my list of great writers. A quarter into this book I had to stop to make sure I got the author right. This was a tremendous jump in his craft. This world that he has created, the characters, the motivations... it all fit together brilliantly.
I am not claiming perfection. I could have done without the romance, but I am a grumpy middle age man. I am claiming this was a well paced, delightfully entertaining work that I will highly recommend to any avid lovers of adventure fantasy.
Bravo Thorne and congratulations. You have a new dedicated fan.

listen to the entire story before judging
I'm only reviewing because of other reviews i read. All the bad reviews i read the listener either clearly misssed the entire point or they didn't finish the book and wrote reviews on limited knowledge. I think people also forget the MC is 17. Keep an open mind and finish the story and keep in mind that the government is training these people for a real world purpose and the game they are in isn't really a game. i can't wait for the next book.

WOW...
This book is without a doubt the best in the series (so far). The author has done an amazing job and you can see how his writing improves from book to book. If you are likely to pick this book up please get the first two otherwise you'll be lost.
Regarding the codename freedom series, the MC makes a clear progression from the first book to the most current. Most of all it is realistic strength progression (some mental as well), it is not one of those stories where the MC is OP and gifted, the best at everything. This guy has to train, and train seriously he does! He faces countless of challenges and struggles to rise to the top.
I dont want to spoil it for anyone interested but if you like a solid progression, one of the more realistic game-dives, humour and a touch of romance. Then you are in the right place.
The narrator has also done a fantastic job...
Only gripe was the time it took for the book to be released, I hope No4 will come out sooner

The second book was better IMO.
The MC was a bit too passive in his decision making and a bit too eager to give up his humanity to turn into the elexie or whatever, that concept wasn't really explained well. All the philosophical improvement was shunted to the side for the maximal training time thing. What's the point of freedom if most of its content is leaked and most of the game time is spent inside a training centre. The increase in fans doesn't feel earned and the romance is a bit generic.
The MC feels like a tool and the book doesn't provide a lot of options, hemming him into this protector role. The progression system is kinda bad aswell. It would have been better to have the basic functionality unlock then progress the system you use through use, as it would provide an opportunity cost to locking yourself in the gym.
