It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her 17-year-old sister, Penryn, will do anything to get her back. Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl. Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels’ secret plans, where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Fan-freakin-tastic!
This was one epic sequel! It picks up right where Angelfall left off and continues with a very fast paced, action-packed, scary and very suspenseful story. Although it has a lot less romance to it, this book answers many lingering questions from the first one. Such as "why the angel apocalypse?".
I loved that the author showed us more of Penryn's sister and mother. Not to mention all the wonderful Pooky Bear moments! It really added an important layer to the overall story. And that ending! Just wow! The wait for book 3 is going to be a long one.

Still loving it, even more intrigued!
4.5 stars — Wow. I’m just having a good old time listening to this series. I seriously had a hard time putting it down. I ended up just laying on the couch listening to it because I desperately wanted to know what was going to happen, and that’s just a sign of a perfect match for me, you know?
Seriously yo, this book is the result of an f’d up imagination. I can’t believe how much I truly hate angels. UGH! I mean, I get that they are a completely different race, and just see things differently, but it’s sooooo annoying listening to the way they completely disregard the human race. And you know what’s annoying about that? It makes sense from their perspective. Why wouldn’t they resent us and regard us as nothing more than “monkeys.” Well done Ms. Ee. I felt so much in this book, and a lot of it was hatred and disgust.
I also get that it’s not all angels, but that they are being manipulated by Uriel. And holy crapballs, my eyebrows went all the way up to my hairline when we started discovering the lengths of his machinations. It just made me more and more intrigued about where things are going to go!! AAHHHHH!!! I need to know! I’m so worried!
I also really appreciated all the different glimpses of the bad sides of humanity we are seeing in this series. And I believe it…I understand the choices that so many of them are making in their struggle to survive. But my heart also breaks. I even cried over Paige, and over Penryn’s struggle with new Paige. I got it…I totally got it…but wow.
And while I’m LOVING this bizarre heartbreaking world, it’s the characters that keep me clamouring for more. I love Penryn. I love her down to her snarky little heart. I even love her bits of whimsy and her crush on Raffe. I mean, this girl. The scene at the banquet where she fights with the steak knife, and the conversations she has afterwards just warmed my sassy heart.
I love all the little side characters too. I can’t tell you how much Dee and Dum made me laugh. They are just priceless. I thought Clara was an interesting addition and gave us other little glimpses. I loved what little we saw of Raffe. I loved Paige…oh Paige. I even loved Pookey Bear!! OMG did I laugh about that. Plus the memory stuff was super intriguing!!
As for the narration, I’m still loving Ms. Davies delivery. She conveys so much emotion, has great unique voices…it’s just consistent with everything I loved from her narration of Angelfall. Can’t wait to hear her narrate the last book.
I’m scurr my friends. I fear the end of this series. I hope I’m less picky than many of my friends and still love it.

I Could Not Put It Down but...
This volume was very interesting and did a good job of holding my attention. I was disappointed that there was not as much of the Raffie character as in the first book. But more time is spent with Penryn and her family, her relationship with them and with the survival camp. There is new information and there is also hope.
This volume did not meet up to my expectations but it did not disappoint me completely. It was good enough to keep me reading 2 hours past my cut-off time so that I can start the next audiobook in the series.

Narration is excellent by Caitlin Davies
I'm really enjoying this series, but this 2nd installment got a little slow without one of the main characters for most of the entire book. I feel the characters are paired as a team and as such, the story isn't quite as intriguing with one of them missing. It's still an excellent story, however, and the narration by Davies makes it that much more enjoyable.

What did you like best about World After? What did you like least?
World After didn’t give me nearly enough romance. I liked most of this entry, but loved the ending more than anything else. World After ultimately did its job by making me want to dive into the final installment to find out what the hell was going to happen to these characters. The series continued to be a crazy, crazy ride, with the level of crazy intensifying with each page turned. I continued to love how original and thrilling this story was, but, Penryn and Raffe were separated for the *majority* of this book, and that was not cool. The last quarter was everything, though.

YA romance with no angst or love triangle - HOORAH
Any additional comments?
This book stands out from other YA novels, as the main character lacks the self absorbed whining that dominate the teen female leads in the genre.
The romance in this series so far develops nicely, is believable (within the boundaries of the plot!) and kind of charming, however, the romance doesn't dominate the action. So far despite a nicely developing romance, it also lacks the teenage angst and love triangles that have made YA paranormal novels a bit too formulaic of late!
Highly recommend!

An Exciting Sequel
World After is a satisfying second book. It is exciting, funny, and kept my interest from beginning to end. The tension between the lead characters is charismatic and believable (for a young adult fantasy novel). The author develops the characters in a way that keeps them likable and keeps you rooting for them. Although the book may not appeal to someone looking for a steamy romance, it is acceptable for mid to late teen readers. The narration is excellent, and I am looking forward to the third book. FYI, I read that a movie is in the works for this book trilogy.

Fantastic sequel!
A spectacular book 2! The story continues at breakneck speed and stops just as abruptly. The plot is intricate, the characterisation is beautifully done. It's true that Penryn is another Katniss but the plot and themes are different enough that the similarities are superficial.
Susan Ee's writing is a bit better than Suzanne Collins' and it shows in the pace of the books - there are no lulls. It's a great story. My only gripe is that I have to wait a year for the next one!
