Publisher's Summary

Four burglaries. Three assaults. One murder. Not the crime stats Police Chief Ethan Blackhawk envisions for his first two weeks on the job. Ethan uncovers a link to his past, an assassin who bested him five years ago and again hunts in his territory. He welcomes a second chance to capture the assassin...until he falls in love with the only witness. This time a failure to unmask the assassin may cost Ethan everything. Wielding a sharp knife, personal chef Serena Cahill dices vegetables and dishes dinner for clients. When she interrupts a crime in progress, Serena steps into the crosshairs of an international assassin. After a friend disappears and her business implodes, she joins forces with Ethan to trap a killer before he takes out the next target -- Serena.

Great suspenseful mystery with a touch of romance!

This is a a great cozy mystery with interesting characters set in a small town. I don’t read many mysteries but this one had everything I enjoy in a cozy mystery. There was suspense, danger, humor, and a touch of romance. The story was engaging from beginning to conclusion.

Narration was excellent and brought the story to life. I enjoyed the distinctive voices for each character. It was a very enjoyable narration.

This is a very clean book with no alcohol, no bad language, no drugs, no sex, and the character that did drink too much trying to erase his pain was dealt with care. Overall a great well written story.

I’m looking forward to reading more books from this talented author.

good read

This was a little predictable damsel in distress cop saves the day story with a mob twist. Serena and Ethan were very likable and his aunt was too much. I will definitely be getting the second book to see what else happens in Other Creek. I received this book for free for an honest review

Entertaining and Clean, Mystery with light romance

What made the experience of listening to Witness the most enjoyable?

This was a fun book to listen to. It's set in a small town with a new police chief. It has everything a well written mystery needs - a good build up, suspense and danger. The romance is a fun thread in the story although toward the end I felt it got a little on the sappy side, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Witness is a great start to a series. The story finishes in such a way that you're not left on a cliff hanger but you can tell it's being set up for another book.

I love that it was a clean book free of language, sex, drugs. It's a book I can let my middle school age daughter listen to without any reservations. The narrator did a wonderful job. She was a pleasure to listen to and the voices of the different characters really helped draw the listener into the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Without giving the story away there were a couple scenes in the book where it showed strong women fighting back and what a great message it sends.

Enjoyable romantic mystery

Witness has all the qualities of a good romantic cozy mystery.

Rebecca Deel brings the small town of Otter Creek to life with realistic and quirky characters,
and humor too.

Serena Cahill, personal chef and errand runner, inadvertently walks into a robbery in progress. Finding her client beaten on the floor of his vandalized home, Serena sees the man responsible when the cops come. As the only witness to the crime, Ethan Blackhawk, the police chief of Otter Creek, sets out to protect Serena from an international hit man and the mob and finds himself falling in love with her.

Kristina Fuller Yuen does a great job narrating this book. She has an easy listening voice and gets the right tone to most of the characters and story nuances. If I have any criticism, it would be the variations of her male voices which could be stronger.

I like that this is a sweet romance with no swearing or sex scenes in it. I look forward to reading and listening to more books by both Rebecca Deel and Kristina Fuller Yuen.

We're going sleuthing tomorrow.

When Police Chief Ethan Blackhawks was interviewed for the job he'd started only two weeks before, he was assured nothing much happened in sleepy Otter Creek. And he believed it until first came a rash of burglaries in the area, then a body was found, one of the theives caught in the home of his victim and called in by one of the residents. She was a witness to another man having been there also.
Megan, one of three sisters, ran a small cookery business catering to couples and small dinner parties in the area and on the verge of becoming successful. And Ethan Blackhawks felt himself attracted to her. But he can't let his growing feelings get in the way of police work...
A gentle mystery thriller with a growing romance viewed from a distance, with fairly well fleshed out characters and small town feel. Without depending on overt violence, there is a feeling of underlying tension.
Narrator Kristina Fuller Yeun has a warm, rather honeyed voice and she reads well with good intonation. Her pace, for this reader, was slightly too slow but increasing the broadcast speed seemed to destroy the pleasure of her voice so it remained at the setting given.

An enjoyable cosy, which does not offend with graphic sex scenes.

Loved it!

Any additional comments?

I have not read/listened to anything by this author and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
The mystery was not the best since I figured out who did it quite quickly but I did like the characters especially Ethan. There was something about him that I really liked and wanted him to have a happy ending. I also loved his aunt, she is funny.

I would highly recommend this book!!!

I wouldn't mind reading more by this author.

The narrator did a great job in voicing the characters and giving them their own personality, so I knew who was saying what.

Fantastic! I loved every minute

Finally. A romantic suspense that isn't padded out with repetitive and mind numbing sex scenes.

I am delighted to have found this series and a new to me author. The rest of the series is going on my to buy list right now.

There was great chemistry between Ethan and Serena right from the beginning. I loved watching the romance build between them.
The story was exciting and we are dropped into the action from the first scene and the author managed to keep this momentum right the way through. I found myself listening to this over two afternoons as I couldn't put it down.

The mystery element was very well written and all the pieces tied well together. I didn't guess the identity of the killer before it became obvious at the end which made this compulsive listening for me.

I loved the setting of the story and the character development of the townspeople meant that I felt like I knew all the players pretty well. Ethan's aunt Ruth was cute and sharp. Ethan's colleagues in the police department also piqued my interest and I'm sure I'll be reading their stories soon. Serena's brother and sisters are also characters I can't wait to see more of.

Exciting and romantic. A real page turner and definitely recommended.

Good clean suspense read.

Witness is a nicely paced romantic suspense book, without any foul language or gory scenes. It has laugh out loud moments and lovable characters.
Rebecca Deel doesn't shy away from character forming moments and shows that everyone has things to deal with, even during extraordinary situations. I like that while the characters go to church and their faith is part of their lives, you as the reader don't feel like your being preached to.
Kristina Fuller Yuen has a nice reading voice and does well with changing the tone and style for each character.
My only issue is that sometimes it is a little unclear when a scene changes. I feel that this is a combination of the writer's editing and the speed of the narrator's speech, as there is no noticeable pause between the end of one scene and the beginning of the next. It is especially bad when the transition goes from one conversation to a new conversation in a new place or time.
I have read all of the Otter Creek series and the accompanying Fortress Security books released so far and I love them all. I hope that all of them will be available as audio books very soon.
Witness is a book that I re-read often.
