Publisher's Summary

The Sunday Times number-one best seller. How people succeed and how you can, too.

Alastair Campbell knows all about winning. As Tony Blair’s chief spokesman and strategist, he helped guide the Labour Party to victory in three successive general elections, and he’s fascinated by what it takes to win.

How do sports stars excel, entrepreneurs thrive, or individuals achieve their ambitions? Is their ability to win innate? Or is the winning mind-set something we can all develop?

Drawing on the wisdom of an astonishing array of talented people, from elite athletes to top managers, from rulers of countries to rulers of global business empires, Alastair Campbell uses his forensic skills as well as his own experience of politics and sport to get to the heart of success.

He examines how winners tick. He considers how they build great teams. He analyses how they deal with unexpected setbacks and new challenges. He judges what the very different worlds of politics, business and sport can learn from one another. And he sets out a blueprint for winning that we can all follow.

Utterly brilliant!!

I was a bit sceptical buying a politicians book, seeing that I don't really trust and respect them as much! but this book caught me, especially it's title as I am into self development and discovering new things about myself, and how I can develop some of the characteristics (Mandela, Warren Buffet, Jose mourihno, 50 cent & Lewis Hamilton) have.

This book was brilliant for me, I undermined it at first, seeing that I've read so many self development books with the same title before. This is one epic book, it's both practical and well compiled! It profiled almost all the sports personalities I enjoy watching on TV and provided some more depth and information about them, somethings I didn't know. I admire Jose Mourihno, Sir Alex Ferguson, Nelson Mandela, Warren Buffet & (50 Cent, though not profiled, but very good businessman).

Winners: and how they succeed, is very well read by the author and provides practical and useful insight into the minds of what makes the likes of Jose Mourinho, and Sir Alex Ferguson today's most admired managers and how they became who they are today.

If you love sports and want to tap more into the minds of your admired sports personalities, I recommend this book without any reservations.

It's masterfully compiled and having the author read the book himself, makes me admire and respect him more.

I am keeping this audio book forever, it is one of my favourite buys of 2016.

Life changing!

As soon as it finished I had to go back to the beginning and start again. And I instructed my daughter to buy the book and read it with a notebook at her side.

Often interesting but over long

I found parts of this really interesting but felt it was a bit too long. Personally i found the sporting stories the least interesting and would have preferred a bit less of this. I preferred the examples from politics and business - even the section on the queen was pretty fascinating.

The narration was fine but I think it would have been better if Campbell himself had either read it all, or not at all. For him to rock up just for the preface and conclusion made it seem like he couldn't be bothered to wade through his own book (in which case why should we?!).

Great insights

Great book - was initially looking at it for mindset insights but learnt a lot about politics, sports, people I might have had initial opinions on etc.

Really well
But together and gives some very good thoughts on setting personal or work strategy and tactics

Well paced, often inspirational listen

What made the experience of listening to Winners the most enjoyable?

Well researched and passionate delivery of the subject with some comical anecdotes and inspirational interviews with some of the most successful people the world has known.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Winners?

I howled with laughter at the Nelson Mandela / Robert Maxwell exchange (I won't give it away)

Which scene did you most enjoy?

the chapter on Floyd Mayweather and his inability to possibly contemplate ever losing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the whole idea of the effort that must go in to achieving greatness moves me.

Any additional comments?

put any preconceptions you have about Alistair Campbell to one side and enjoy this great listen.

Book about politics

Didn’t enjoy listening to this book. Partly my fault as I thought from the front cover it was a sports book but really it’s a politics book and bits of sport , didn’t mind the sports bits but still very annoying to listen to as he constantly refers back to politics , he will be talking about Floyd mayweather or some one and then say in the middle of it all ”it’s just like what me and Tony did” and refer back to politics , he does this all through the book and if your like me and couldn’t give a hoot about politics or Tony Blair I don’t think you will enjoy !

Never liked these political types but......

This really is a great listen. Alistair Campbell provides wonderful, concise and thoughtful leadership insights from himself and through others that really strike a chord and stick in your brain. Excellently narrated. I like Alistair Campbell a little bit more now.

A very enjoyable read

What did you like most about Winners?

I thought it was really well written, I found all the interviews fascinating. I love my sport and I'm not big on politics however I found every description of each individual extremely interesting including Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair and even a very interesting view of Putin I might add. I like how Alister pitched his O.S.T model against each of the winners view point and I have to say it is a strategy that has a lot of weight behind it. I wouldn't call this a self help book like a lot of the others I read, however there is a lot to be learnt from this book and very interesting and entertaining too. Excellent *****

Irrelevant & boring

I was hoping that the book would be more objective rather than being more subjective about the author, if you want to know more about how labour functioned, then this is the book for you.

One of the better ones

Most books that I've read, covering the topic of winning, are very one dimensional. they often limit themselves to business or sport solely.
Winners bucks the trend with a good mix of sport, business, ethnicities and politics, as well as a few X factor contributors for a really well balanced book
