Publisher's summary

This program is read by the author and an exciting cast of readers including Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. Also included are the winning fan submissions from the Macmillan Audio When to Jump contest.

An inspirational audiobook that lays out the "Jump Curve" - four steps to wholeheartedly pursuing the career of your dreams - through experiences from a variety of people who have jumped and never looked back

When Mike Lewis was 24 and working in a prestigious corporate job, he eagerly wanted to leave and pursue his dream of becoming a professional squash player. But he had questions: When is the right time to move from work that is comfortable to a career you have only dared to dream of? How have other people made such a jump? What did they feel when making that jump - and afterward?

Mike sought guidance from others who had "jumped", and the responses he got - from a banker who started a brewery, a publicist who became a bishop, a garbage collector who became a furniture designer, and on and on - were so clear-eyed and inspiring that Mike wanted to share what he had learned with others who might be helped by those stories. First, though, he started playing squash professionally.

The right audiobook at the right time, When to Jump offers more than 40 heartening stories (from the founder of Bonobos, the author of The Big Short, the designer of the Lyft logo, the Humans of New York creator, and many more) and takeaways that will inspire, instruct, and reassure, including the ingenious four-phase Jump Curve.

This program is read by Mike Lewis, Sheryl Sandberg, Jeff Arch, Betsy Lewis, Nate Chambers, Laura McKowen, Tommy Clark, Elle Luna, Lawrence Campbell, Fernando Rodriguez-Villa, Merle R. So inspired by this book!

I am 30 years old and this book came to me at the perfect time! It was just the encouragement I needed in order to make my own jump! It also let me know that no time has been wasted! As I began to read it some things started to unfold for me. I was able to start approaching things in a way I never had before! It changed my mindset and gave me confidence to start stepping out into dreams I've had for years! Thank you.

Do you hear a voice inside you?

This book spoke to me like few others have before and this is mainly due to the amazing stories from real people on their JUMP experience. An unexpected bonus was to have the stories read from the actual people who JUMPED! I was able to relate to many different aspects of the stories including the 'voice', ideas and knowing there is something more than my current situation. You will hear from people in all walks of life who knew they had to not only listen to that voice inside but they had to do something about it. They had to make a JUMP!

Interwoven with the stories is some solid advice that can be used to guide you in your JUMP. I've started my plan to JUMP because I know that I can no longer ignore or push down the voice inside me that is wanting out.

If you hear that voice inside telling you to JUMP, you are not alone.

Interesting

I’m not sure if I read the synopsis wrong, but this book was not what I expected, although still interesting. It was basically one man’s detailed jump (the author) and many abbreviated “jump” stories (although some I would not necessarily consider a “jump”). All in all, this had good rid bits of information, but I had to take at least 3-4 extended breaks from listening daily.

Very inspiring!

I’ve listened to this book two times now and each time I take away new things. It’s very inspiring and I love that the stories were read by the individuals!

Very insightful and a great read

Loved hearing all the diverse backgrounds of people Mike interviewed. I liked the sections of jumps... I don't know what I will jump for, but I feel prepared.

Exactly what I needed to hear.

The collection of stories from all walks of life make this book applicable to just about anyone who is considering making the jump. At a time in my life where I’m nervous to make the full time jump into the next venture, these stories assured me that everything works itself out. Highly suggest to anyone who is just now hearing that little voice to people who are on the fence ready to go.

Well done!

Excellent points and highly quotable. I made a Google Doc summarizing these stories. In my life, thanks to this book, I've come to the conclusion that I'm not ready to make a jump, but I am making the steps to get there!

Motivating and Informative

This book gives really great perspectives if you are considering changing your career. The best part of the book are the different stories narrated by the people that lived the experiences. Each brought a different perspective which helped solidify the belief that you should jump if you have a dream to pursue. The only part of this book I didn't care for were the redundant portions where the author reiterated the main points of each individual's stories. That was completely unnecessary. Otherwise, it is definitely worth your time if you are considering a change.

Really wanted to love it, but…

The story was just ok. I see why the author had all the speakers included in the book and them reading their audio, but I struggled to connect with the content. I didn’t walk away with tangible objectives to consider. I did appreciate that he included jumps of all sizes, however.

Great companion and guidance through my own jump

I am in the verge of my own jump, and this book was the best companion and guide through it. Though I haven't jump I am just there, negotiating my out from my favourite Company to work with, Amazon.com. I am happy and at peace that "if not me who, if not now when?" is stronger in my head. Thank you.
