Publisher's summary

Preparing a planet for colonization can be a deadly business. Scientists and engineers working on the Ceres project have all been poisoned from radiation. But there may still be a way to save the mission.

Dr. Adrian McElroy has proposed a radical and illegal solution - the transfer of his colleagues’ intelligence into android bodies. The doctor is positive he can make his lifelong dream work. However, the scientists will soon find radiation is not the only thing threatening their lives.

McElroy’s plan has raised the ire of engineer Mikola Petrovsky - a bitter opponent to artificial life. Mikola fought to come aboard the prestigious colonization mission to save face after losing his aeronautics job to robots. Now he must overcome his disgust and consent to become an android/human hybrid in order to settle his personal vendetta with artificial beings once and for all.

Nice Audiobook.

By now I believe that everyone knows the difference between a Android, and a Robot. While the acceptance of working Robots is nothing new to the public, what will they believe, or fear, when Androids want their rights respected.

My first Gary Starta book and I want more!

I was provided this audio book in exchange for unbiased review. That said, I loved this book! It proceeded in an unstated manner, and the narrator was perfect. As the start unwound, you find yourself following events on earth and on a rocket heading to Ceres. The characters are defined over the course of the story, again in a thoughtful manner, but the plot unwinds with twists and turns. You have to listen closely or you'll miss a key point.

Not only did I love the book but now I have a new author to follow. This was the first one I've read by Gary Strata and I'm already looking at his other books.

"I Robot" the next phase on steroids

This story is a story about journeys through space. greedy corporate giants, a great Criminal Investigation, crime and punishment...finally social equality for synthetic individuals. It gets confusing buy it day interesting and becomes a "can't stop listening stay which make it a great listen

Slow start, But boy what a Great Story!!

I had trouble getting into this story at first but as it went on it became hard to stop listening to it. Nar6did a Great job with the characters and the writer also did a Great job. This is a very interesting and in the future possibly a realistic view of humans and their fear of change and advance robotics.

Sparse Character Development

I think characters should be detailed enough to develop interest in the story line. About the only character developed was the ludicrous asshole Russian that hates everybody and everything and is willing to destroy the mission because his daddy treated him badly. The story concept is good but somehow I never actually cared for the central characters.

Good Sci-Fi

This is a good Sci-FI story, parts of it reminded me of Data and Noonien Soong from Star Trek. It has a good mix of earth and colonizing a new world as well as space.

if you are in-between Sci-Fi series give this one a listen.

The Narration was a good fit for the story and helps bring you into this world.

Note at the time of this review audible does not have chapter titles.

The book was provided for free, however, these are my honest opinions and review.

Good story... tries too hard to be serious

I liked the story. There is plot. The characters are interesting (although some are a bit one dimensional or extreme).

But it does tend to ramble on a bit about androids and how they are evil. All to give an impression of extreme intolerance in those characters. In contrast, new bits of humanity continue to appear from the characters supporting the Android cause. This is clearly meant to delve into the meaning of life, but there is nothing profound here. So, it just gets irritatingly repetitive at some points.

That aside, I enjoyed the sci fi, the plot and the action — so the majority of it was great!!

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for a fair review

Compelling Story

First, I am a fan of Starta's, but I never set expectations when reading or listening to one of his stories. I enjoyed this story, and I think I enjoyed it the most because I was listening the audiobook. The narrator did a wonderful job at bringing Starta's words to life. It was well put together, and of course, well written. There is a fight to save humanity, as always, that's a great premise. Starta takes the story to a new level with this futuristic tale, using artificial intelligent beings to save the world. I enjoyed this story.

Loved it!

I couldn't stop listening! The storyline captured my attention, such a crazy series of events! If you like sci-fi and this author's other works, you will love this one too.

The only things I didn't like were the spots where the author over-described things or told you how people were feeling instead of allowing the characters to lead you to the same conclusion.

The narration was spot on.
