Publisher's summary

Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: A giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time.

So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes", "levels", and "quests", Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change.

After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

Loved It. took me by surprise.

I was skeptical about purchasing this book but am very glad that I did. It was done surprisingly well. It was a good performance. Also very funny at times. A little dark humor goes a long way with me sometimes.

It's how I imagined Smaug to be.

the only way this book could be better is if Benedict Cumberbatch read the dragon.

I want more of these hilarious characters

I binge listened to this book laughing all the way. The story telling and narration were superb .The main characters were well rounded and extremely hilarious in their rhetoric. It could be pretty bloody at tomes but the author did not write you into nightmares your imagination could fill in the gaps and stop where you wanted to.. I stumbled onto the LitRPG genre through Pirate Aba and it was good but this was GREAT! I am buying the next one as soon as it comes out. I am 51 year old woman and this book can be enjoyed no matter how old you are past about 14 not because I wouldn't have been under the covers reading it with a flashlight at 8 but because much of the subject matter is not appropriate for prepubescent young people.

An amazing epic with action, comedy, and more...

I couldn't stop listening. The story is very well written and the narrator was exquisite. I hope there is a second book on the way.

fun

it's a fun litrpg comedy romp, similar to the book the blue mage raised by dragons so if you liked that book you'll like this one

Great Mix of Humor and Story

There were a few slight mistakes in the performance, such as the dragon voice effect not being applied (only happened 2 times I believe), but other than that, a really solid story and a good mix of serious storytelling and light hearted humor.

The relationship between the dragon and his “minion” evolving over time is actually heartwarming. Both characters achieve significant growth throughout the story.

The world the story is set in is very richly described, and the leveling/class system is very unique and interesting.

great story, minor audio issues

the story is great but the narrator messes up the effects of the voice while switching between characters.

Manling! Read this for me!

Herein lie the misadventures of an unlucky fella from earth who dies and is reincarnated in another world. He quickly finds himself pressed into service by an amoral narcissist with scales and wings. Hilarity ensues.

It's a good story, often told from the perspective of the dragon. If you enjoy Everybody Loves Large Chests for the patently inhuman perspective, you will likely also enjoy this book. The story stays interesting and is of a good length -- plus, there's an hour of bonus content in the form of short stories.

This book has a clearly talented author, and the narrator knocks it out of the park. All the characters seem well-voiced, and most especially His Majesty Vainqueur Himself [long may He reign].

There is one serious flaw with this book, however: phrasing in English is sometimes imprecise. This is a translation from French, and (I think) the author's first published book. I can give him a pass for that, but a native speaker who is good with words should do editing & proofing on further volumes.

Overall: this book is worth a listen or a read. It's PG-13 at most, with some mild sexual humor. If ELLC is too raunchy for you, but you like the basic premise, this will be more to your liking. Enjoy!
