“Passionate summary of the inhuman treatment of the Jewish people in Europe, of the exodus in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to Palestine, and of the triumphant founding of the new Israel.”—The New York Times

Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon—the towering novel of the twentieth century's most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies—the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus—one of the great bestselling novels of all time.

I'm very afraid that nothing I say is going to do this book justice, but I'm going to try. I read this book when I was a senior in High-School and I loved it then. That was 7 years ago. I've been requesting this book for a while so needless to say, I was overjoyed when I found it on audible this morning. What attracted me to this novel from the beginning was my fascination with Israel and how it became a nation in 1948. I had just returned from a trip to Israel 6 months before I read Exodus for the first time. so I knew a lot of the history. This book brought back not only knowledge but also memories of places in Israel where I had gone. It was bitter-sweet. This novel makes me feel like I'm coming home. What tugged at my heart about this novel the most was the characters. To me, these are some of the best in literature. You really get to see who these people are. They make mistakes, they laugh, they love, they quarrel, Etc., and the reader feels all that. Uris really brings out the conflicts, the emotions, the tension, Etc. so very well. I feel like I am inside the book. I'm on chapter 10, but I'm already hooked. The narrator does a good job I think. If you have any kind of interest in Israel, I'd say read this book. I love it and can't wait to finish it. To me, this book is like a pair of worn jeans. It just feels good. I hope audible puts up Trinity and Redemption next. Thank you audible. You have no idea how happy you've made me today.:)

My favorite book of ALL Time

I read this book many years ago but I decided to listen to it read on Audible and I am so glad I did. I remember loving this book before, but it seemed all new to me this time, especially after witnessing the history of Israel as it has unfolded during my lifetime even right up to today. And what a history they have!

I love how Uris interweaves fact with his fictional story. It is seamless and skillful writing. Paul Michael was the perfect narrator. I've heard some good ones, and he ranks right up there with the best.

If you have any fascination with the birth of the nation of Israel please get this book. Now I want to revisit the movie. Hope it is as good as I remember it. Of course, the book is always better!

Great writing, great narrator, great story!

The story of the Jewish people told in this book was moving and powerful. Despite thousands of years of persecution that continues to this day, their resilience and capacity for renewal has led to a thriving society in Israel which is simply something that is hard to explain. This book brought me to a deeper understanding of that and captivated me.

Powerful and Compelling

The first time I read this I was 11. My parents forbade me to so I read it when they were at work. With the wisdom and knowledge of years and visits to Israel this was a visceral experience. My Aunt was interned in Cyprus.

Tremendous historical value

I listen to this book as part of Ben Shapiro’s monthly book club.

Leon Uris is an amazing author, historian, and storyteller. We learned much of the past and history between Israel and Palestine. And the story of people with their raw emotions was beautifully told.

I am impressed by the loyalty of Jewish people to the country, their family, and their God. This is now one of my favorite books.

Outstanding!
