Publisher's summary

This touching and hilarious memoir is 100 percent Carol Burnett—funny, irreverent, and irresistible.Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won twenty-five Emmys in its remarkable eleven-year run.

Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another. In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary “Went with the Wind” skit; and things that would happen only to Carol—the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice cream emporium. This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

Critic reviews

"These short memories, of the people Burnett met and interviewed over the years, on- and off-camera, bring it back — the golden age of variety shows....Burnett has a writer's eye for the moment, the detail, the slip that reveals character. She's never mean and always grateful."—Los Angeles Times

"Carol was a huge star on television because she was funny, daring, and always genuine. We loved Carol because we felt we knew her. With this book, we do. She trusts us with her personal anecdotes, happy, sad, hilarious and poignant. Thank you Carol. "—Billy Crystal

"I read This Time Together in one sitting and when I finished I felt like Carol had been sitting beside me telling me these wonderful stories of her life. It's funny, it's endearing and very moving. I cannot recommend it highly enough."—Julie Andrews

EMOTIONAL

My face hurts from laughing through much of this book. The overly emotional parts made me tear up. Carol Burnett is most certainly a national treasure.

Great Stories

Warm, funny and heartfelt stories about Carol's life, her career and her family. Lots of inside information behind the characters and cast of her variety show, which as a fan was priceless. I thoroughly enjoyed her recounts of her encounters with "stars" like Jimmy Stewart, Julie Andrews and Lucille Ball. I highly recommend this book.

Love this book!

It’s Carol Burnett talking about her own stories, what's not to love?! I needed a funny book after finally finishing an agonizingly long and depressing book… and THIS was great! It was SO great that I finished it in one sitting... I wish it was longer. I absolutely adore Carol and there is just no way I'd get this book as a regular paper back when I could have her voice, her laugh & her Tarzan yell in audiobook form.

Beautiful, Funny, Informative and Inspirational

The only way to "read" this book, to me, would be to hear it straight out of the mouth of the beautiful, talented and glamorous woman herself. Ms. Burnett delivers a stellar performance reading this book. I loved every second of it and I was a little sad that it came to an end. I'm about to see if I can find more of her books now, listen to this book, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Ms. carol Burnett for sharing your life stories with us!!!

Carol Burnett

I thought it was fascinating, but its Carol Burnett, I liked to hear about the entire story about what went on behind the scenes so to speak of the Carol Burnett Show. Intermixed with personal detail and hearing Carol's natural voice is truly exciting. This lady is most assuredly connected with the universal plan and has made such a huge difference in the lives of others with her experiences, she has touched so many lives in so many positive ways. She is truly an inspiration and delight. I have always admired her strength and fearlessness. Thank you Carol for sharing the information you have with us, although I do not know a lot of the people you speak about, it was all the same fascinating and inspirational. God truly loves you Carol and has gifted you, thank you God for bringing such a talent to the world who has made a huge contribution in the lives of people that also make a difference.
