great book

My first time reading/listening to a Eva Chase book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed the build up of Ivys character. I really enjoyed Michelle Sparks narration of this books.

A compulsive and imaginative read - a very good start in this new series.

I can never be disappointed by this author. It also looks like I have a new favourite series.

Holy Cliffhanger

Nooooo why did it end there!! I think this is my fav Eva Chase audiobook so far. The spice level is minimal but I enjoyed the mystery. I guessed a part of it but something completely different happened too. I cant wait for the next audiobook.

Fantastic Fantasy Series Starter!!

An amazing story, full of detailed descriptions, and complex characters!
This is probably the longest book I've read in a while (excluding omnibuses) and that's because the author needed that length to create this entertaining story and the wonderful characters to go with it.
Ivy is an interesting character. She's lived on her own, causing minor strife for unsavory merchants, and giving back to the community in her unique way. When one day, she discovers a body of a noble, and gains an unexpected guest in her head. Her and Juleta's interactions are pretty amusing and I liked the eventual understanding between them.
Ivy is thrust into the world of nobles and a conspiracy of scourge sorcery with four handsome men to work with. I liked the growth Ivy had with Stavros, Cas, Alek, and Benny. Their interactions were entertaining and I'm excited to see where this goes in future books.
The conspiracy had so many twists and turns and I loved each and every one of them. There were layers to it and it kept you guessing who was actually involved.
Other enjoyable things were Ivy showing up the stuck up nobles, Juleta showing her privilege and Ivy's internal thoughts about that, and a bathtub that I really want in my house (plus Cas).

The story is told in first person POV from only Ivy's perspective. There's a fair bit of violence (not particularly detailed, but it is described), sacrificing body parts, swearing (anachronistic swears, too, but let's be real, sometimes the F word is just needed), and a couple of steamy scenes. It ends in a kind of cliffhanger, but the next book is out, so don't worry about waiting. Also, this is a why-chose novel, so Miss Ivy will NOT be picking one single partner.

I loved the narrator! She did a great job with all the different characters, giving each of them a distinct voice, so you could follow along easily enough. I liked the personality she gave Ivy, I think her version really fit the one the author created. I listened at 1.15x speed.

Good Start!

It was a really good start to this new series. I enjoyed the characters and the story. The narration was good as well. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

A great book especially with how picky I am but I'm sad it's over ..

Dark Fantasy Filled With Intrigue

This was my first experience with Eva Chase's work, and it was fascinating. The worldbuilding was complex. The characters were complicated, and Ivy's character was a blend of both light and dark traits. The story contained some surprising twists and kept my attention. There were a couple of descriptive steamy scenes. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Michelle Sparks' narration was entertaining and enhanced my enjoyment of the tale. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Exceptional

A book this good comes around maybe once every 10 years and I’m glad I was a part of the journey. If book two is anything like book one, I’m sold.

I always enjoy Eva Chase's books and was excited to start this new series. As I listened to the audiobook, I enjoyed how the narrator brought the characters to life in a way that made you feel like you were part of the story. I look forward to the next book in the series.
