The first authoritative biography of film legend Bruce Lee, who made martial arts a global phenomenon, bridged the divide between Eastern and Western cultures, and smashed long-held stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans. Forty-five years after Bruce Lee’s sudden death at age 32, journalist and best-selling author Matthew Polly has written the definitive account of Lee’s life. It’s also one of the only accounts; incredibly, there has never been an authoritative biography of Lee.

He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Publisher's Summary
During his lifetime, legendary martial artist Bruce Lee formulated a complex personal philosophy - a synthesis of Eastern and Western ideals - that extolled the virtues of knowledge and total mastery of one's self. Most of his philosophical writings could be found only within the personal library of the Bruce Lee estate - until John Little was given permission to publish them for the wider world. The Warrior Within is the most comprehensive volume of these teachings, meant to help you apply Lee's philosophies to your own life. This unique guide reveals such life-affirming secrets as how to:
- See the totality of life and put things into perspective,
- Understand the concept of Yin and Yang,
- Defeat adversity by adapting to circumstances, and
- Tap into inner spiritual forces to help shape the future.
The Warrior Within is an engrossing and easy-to-understand guide to the little-explored world of Bruce Lee.

Narrator Blows the Entire Book (honest opinion)
The teachings and philosophies of this legendary man, Bruce Lee, are intrinsically down to earth! One of my few heroes for sure.
I simply can not give this book 5 stars, or even 4 stars, in fact the only reason why I gave it 3 is because I know the material is good.
But, I just can't get over the way the narrator narrates the book! It's as if he speaks in a way that completely makes you day dream, and you have to constantly fight for your attention of the book (maybe in some weird way that's what they wanted?). It is just so un-engaging that it bothers me such a great man's philosophies was read by this guy. The only part I enjoyed is he changes his voice to "sound" like Bruce Lee. Other than that, different narrator and it'd be a 5 star.

Fake Chinese accent during quoting Bruce Lee
I don't understand why the narrator would use a fake Chinese accent when he quoted Bruce Lee it would have been better for him to speak in his natural language it became so annoying and so difficult to even understand what he was saying that I could no longer finished the book and returned it. using a fake accent may be appropriate for a fictional book but not for this one. If You've Never Heard of Bruce Lee I guess Its OK
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The first thing I feel compelled to mention is that the narration could have been less grating if without the very annoying and poor quality Bruce Lee 'impression' or 'accent' but worse than this is the repetition of 'according to lee' and similar precursors to a 'Lee thought'.
However that was less painful than the assumption that the author (John Little) seems to me to write like he is the only person, other than Lee that has any idea or experience of (Chinese?) philosophy and an understanding of yin/yang etc. I personally found the general style of writings around the Bruce Lee quotes condescending and arrogant. I understand the reasoning and what John was trying to do and I may be a tad harsh as I have been a Bruce Lee fan for more than 30 years. But having absorbed what is useful (to me) about Lee's life, story and outlook I found this basic and without thought to target audience, which it would seem are people at least familiar with Bruce Lee the man, the myth.
Generally if you have NOT read Tao of JKD or any other works about Bruce then I guess this would perhaps be of inspiration and use in this work, however if you have been exposed to any of Bruce's philosophy/thoughts and/or video snippets then there is absolutely nothing new here and there is a lot of repetition.
If you’ve listened to books by John Little before, how does this one compare?
I've not listened to John's books on Audible before, but I have read most of them and they on the whole seemed better presented and though out.
How could the performance have been better?
No poor impressions of Bruce Lee - They were not required and diminished the narration and my experience.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Warrior Within?
Anything that wasn't a quote from Lee himself.
Any additional comments?
Buy the Tao of Jeet Kune Do and just read that instead.

Enjoyed it so much that I've ordered a hard copy!
An excellent testament to the avant-garde philosophy of not only an exceptional fighter but one whose mindset transcends his yet unmatched physical prowess. Told through the eyes of John Little, a diligent enquirer commissioned to share the erudite volumes of Bruce Lee with the masses and the multitudes. I Enjoyed it so much that I've ordered a hard copy and I'll most definitely be reading the remainder of the books that have been authorized by the Bruce Lee Estate.

Story
The first authoritative biography of film legend Bruce Lee, who made martial arts a global phenomenon, bridged the divide between Eastern and Western cultures, and smashed long-held stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans. Forty-five years after Bruce Lee’s sudden death at age 32, journalist and best-selling author Matthew Polly has written the definitive account of Lee’s life. It’s also one of the only accounts; incredibly, there has never been an authoritative biography of Lee.

Bruce Lee is a cultural icon, renowned the world over for his martial arts and film legacy. But Lee was also a deeply philosophical thinker, learning at an early age that martial arts are more than just an exercise in physical discipline - they are an apt metaphor for living a fully realized life. Now, in Be Water, My Friend, Lee’s daughter, Shannon, shares the concepts at the core of his philosophies, showing how they can serve as tools of personal growth and self-actualization.
