Alan Watts discusses the word tathata, which is translated from the Sanskrit as "suchness" or "thusness." The term is used in Mahayana Buddhism to suggest how things look to a Buddha, to one who has experienced enlightenment or liberation and is, therefore, called a Tathagata - one who comes (and goes) thus. These lectures are great for anyone with an open mind, from the merely curious to those seeking satori. A self proclaimed "spiritual entertainer," Alan Watts takes various concepts from eastern religions and translates them for a western audience, providing both entertainment and insight along the way. If you ever need a new perspective on the human condition try giving Alan Watts a listen.
This man passed over a decade before I was born, but his voice gives me comfort and his words bring me peace. He's helped me through some tough times, and I return to his lectures, or his writings, from time to time when I need a refresher.
"So, translated into colloquial American, nirvana is 'whew.' 'Cause if you let your breath go... it'll come back."

Alan Watts at his best
Easy listening. AW had a habit of deliberately repeating a few fundamental concepts over and over again but in many different ways so to approach those "truths" from different angles. My favourite spiritual teachers....an evergreen.

One of the most important reflections, possibly ever.
I would put this book up there with the Bible as far as importance. The reflections that Watts goes through are ancient & tried & true. Beautiful words, thoughts & ideas permeate this book sentence by sentence. I wish he was still alive, what a wonderful mind and one-of-a kind teacher. Happy listening!
