Publisher's Summary

Howie’s group disembark from the Isle of Wight, but when the ferry they take breaks down they climb aboard a Royal Navy supply vessel at anchor outside Portsmouth Harbour to find a huge horde of undead. We meet Maddox and a group of council estate children who have survived the apocalypse by taking refuge in a cannabis plantation.

When a horde of undead attack the children, Howie tries to save them only to find they turn on him. Eventually a truce is called, and an uneasy alliance begins to develop.

Part 5

The Undead series is a great listen. it's funny and serious at the same time. My biggest issue with this series is that the books are too short. All of these parts to buy are going to make me stop buying them soon and I don't want that to happen!

Endied disappointedly

While I've enjoyed all 5 books in the series. I felt shirt changed with this book. It didn't cover enough ground.
Sad😉

What was the point?

I'm not really sure why this was a standalone story. It didn't advance the plot and seemed like it ended where it started. Although interesting, it seemed like a meandering side adventure that cost $13. It was nice to break up the monotony of the last book .

Favorite of the series - part 5

Most original story line for zombie apocalypse characters. Well developed and very believable (flawed human as protagonist).

Too short to use a credit on.

Good narration and new characters. just too short. it feels more like a few chapters worth and only get from a to b. not worth a full credit and price means it makes more sense to purchase. please bundle more of them

Enter a new group

I’ve been following this series for a while and like that it went in a new direction. Instead of mainly showing Howie’s group (which is written in the first person) we spend the majority of time with a new group of troubled kids (written in the third person). The story leads up to the two groups meeting, which is quite an intense exchange. The PC Police would take issue with parts, but then again, political correctness and this entire series don’t really go together. Which is perfectly fine with me, and what keeps it refreshing in some ways—being real and not overly sensitive. The series is fun and full of banter and intensity and lots of zombie killing. Good stuff.

Great Continuation!

Not only do we keep following Mr.Howie and his crew along the harrowing journey to safety but we come across an interesting band of brothers(and sisters). Enter Mattox and his gang of tough youngsters surviving and fighting for their own safety among the undead and other living who are trying to take their lives. Another adrenaline filled ride in this story, you won't regret buying it.

Council Estate?

Any additional comments?

Starting to depart from the sphere of Howey and team, I didn't know at first how I'd enjoy it. However the drama and great story that unfolds with the youth is quite engaging. without spoilers, there's a part you want to yell at the youths to grow up and see Howey and crew for what they are! I hope we return to this camp and see what has become of their dream, what I am deeming "camp lord of flies"

New Perspectives

For the first time, we get a sense of the world outside of Howie's little band. So far, we've been focused pretty much him or those connected to him. This is the first time that we see things from a point of view totally unconnected to the main characters. We get to see how a different group of survivors has coped with the situation. It seems as though Dan Morgan has gotten better at this. His voices are more well defined then they have been previously. All in all, a fantastic listen to continue the story.

A bit of a slow-burn after part 4.

Although part 5 has it's own charms and interesting developments; it suffers somewhat following on from such climactic parts as 3 & 4. A lot of this part is centred around Maddox and his crews, which make for an interesting change of pace but can be a bit of an annoyance when none of them are particularly likeable characters.

As with all of The Undead books, I'd still recommend listening to it - as it's a fun & action-packed time, beautifully narrated by Dan Morgan - however so far this one has felt the toughest to get through in my opinion.

Just buy them all!

So far, this is just outstanding, the way the story moves along and how the people he meets along the way become a part of it, his terrible and incredible luck and getting into sticky situations and somehow surviving, with much hilarity.
I love these books!

Still good but not as good

For me this is the weakest chapter so far. Don't get me wrong, its still a great listen but doesn't have the same impact as the previous 4 parts. Plus it is very short for the cost! The usually excellent Dan Morgan also seemed to be having an off episode... firstly his handle on all the different character voices often gets confused. Southerner Clarence morphs into Northerner Ted, Maddox fluctuates in between himself and one of Morgan's posh voices, even Dave is inconsistent. On top of that, I'm not sure what Morgan was doing with his recording, there are a lot of obvious stops and starts with fluctuations in pitch and tone which seriously break the immersion. This became really irritating after a while. Having said all that it is still worth a listen, even if just for the sequence with Howie & Dave where Howie is trying to find out if Dave is a glass half full or empty kind of guy. That part had me laughing out loud.
