Publisher's summary

A heart driven by vengeance. A soul devoured by regret.

After finally ending the Dark King's perceived reign of terror, a heartbroken Raven must face the grief and guilt of becoming a murderer. Her best friend Kirsi might've helped her cope, except she has her own existential crisis learning to be a wraith. They find themselves stranded in the human lands with the Dark King's cousin Grey, and a new band of misfits desperately searching for a way back home.

But home is harboring nothing but ruination....

In the wake of the Dark King's demise, the coven leaders have the perfect opportunity to retrieve the Grimoires in their hunt for supremacy and power. But casting near two at once could unleash catastrophic horrors, and Raven's life has already been shattered enough. Determined to preserve what's left of their broken worlds, Raven and Kirsi race against time as they battle the remaining coven leaders to stop the Harrowing. And a shocking revelation from the other side might crash Raven's world once and for all.

From the author of the heart-pounding fantasy series, Fae Rising, and the explosive opening, The Unmarked Witch, comes the twisted conclusion to the Unmarked Duology, The Unbound Witch.

I’m not ok

This book was heart wrenchingly good.
It was such a rollercoaster of emotions and I couldn’t stop listening.
I really enjoyed the narrator for these books too, though what she was saying and what the Kindle edition had didn’t always match up perfectly. Threw me off a couple times but that’s such a minor issue. She had an overall great performance.

This duology has very quickly become one of my favourites and I’m thinking of doing another read-through already.
Well done, Miranda Lyn

3.5

I loved the first book, this one was good but didn’t hold me captive like the first! Still a good listen.

So much action!

Fast paced and a well thought out sequel. It kept me engaged throughout and I really enjoyed this duology.

So worth the wait!

I was so excited for this book release and it did not disappoint! The story wraps up beautifully and I was entrenched the entire way! The world building is amazing and I felt all the emotions! The narrator is phenomenal but best heard in headphones! Even some of the plot twists were unexpected which is hard, because I feel like I often see everything coming! I can’t wait to listen again and will definitely purchase the physical copies for my collection

Worth The Read

I like the first book better but this book had a few plot twists that were fun. The voiceover was terrible. Everyone sounded exactly the same. Worth the read.

Entertaining

Miranda Lyn did a wonderful job in this second book…captivating to say the least.

An Okay Fantasy

The first book was slightly better than this one. However, I wouldn’t have even read this one if the first hadn’t left me hanging. Maybe I’m just outgrowing YA books.
What I liked: The story was completed. The ending wrapped things nicely with no loose strings. There were a couple of surprise twists, though I had already figured out one and suspected the other.
What I didn’t like: The nasally narration of the reader and her interpretation of the king’s voice, especially when she made him drawl. I found the ending entirely unsatisfying, specifically Willow, the changes, and Raven. Especially Raven. Some scenes of the story dragged. The Dark King lost much of his allure and became too tame. The sex scenes seem like a forced attempt to use all the adjectives and action verbs the author knew, with the last bedding thrown in for good measure. While most of the book dragged the ending seemed disjointed and rushed.
I’m mostly aggravated about the lukewarm ending. It’s a fantasy. At least it could have had a fantastic ending. It felt anticlimactic and disappointing.

Great story and continuation of the first book, okay narrator

I really enjoyed this duology. I've now listened to it twice, usually finishing within a week. The story is everything I look for in fantasy romance. There is magic and mystery, quite a bit of spice, but not too entirely explicit —just like the first book. I was at first surprised by the spicy scenes, (more in reference to the first book because I had an idea by this one) You can never really know in these books if it will be totally clean or complete smut, but it was mostly tasteful. On another note, The narrator is okay, but not great. I initially thought it was kind of robotic but I think I got used to it by the end. Over all great book if you enjoy the romance fantasy genre.

Liked the story, irritated by the writing.

Pros: The storyline is fine enough. Nothing super original but I satisfied the bit of fantasy reading I was looking for. The narrator was good, very expressive and voice characters were decently done.

Cons: OVERLY DRAMATIC. It was very annoying to wait thru some of the writer’s “over acting” in many of the scenes. What could be said in 5 words were dragged out to 10. The use of casual modern-day phrasing and profanity was disconcerting to the period they were trying to reenact.

I wanted to like it but felt by self going thru both books just waiting get to the finish line. And even then, it left me with no sense of lingering feelings; bad or good. A very forgettable series with a writer that has a decent concept but poor execution.

This is definitely a YA novel written for overheated teens.
