I abandoned listening to this book on the first try because it did not hold my attention.

I have over 4,000 audio books and I was looking for more pure action and to be riveted right from the start.

After listening to "Cold City: A Repairman Jack Novel" the "Repairman Jack: Early Years" series I had a better foundation on the character.

LOVED this book on my second try. Story is a bit of a run-away train building speed.

To get the most out of this book listen to "Repairman Jack: Early Years", it is good.

If you like this book you might also like to try:
"The Cabinet of Curiosities" the 'Pendergast' series does not need to be read in any order.

"Fear Nothing" and other books by Dean Koontz.

Read "Cold City" First.

this was a great beginning to a fantastic series. Highly recommend to anyone who likes adventures

Awesome book

It seemed strange at the time that there would have possibly been a minor rewrite to have referenced an ipod, but it does make sense since it's meant to take place in modern day, though it was written originally on the 80's.

I wasn't aware there were newer editions of this book

Where does The Tomb rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

On the top ten. So high up on my list that I have decided to purchase all the Repairman Jack books. Jack is an amazing guy. I feel like he is about to become one of my best friends.

What did you like best about this story?

It is fiction based on past events. I am old enough to remember most of what happens in his book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither but then I am not too emotional.

Fascinating

If you could sum up The Tomb in three words, what would they be?

Marlowe meets Dresden

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The story had few lulls and those were necessary to flesh out the characters, I found myself wanting to warn the characters to be careful. It was fun to hear the banter between protagonist and antagonist and Wilson did not leave the "villain" 2 dimensional but gave us peeks of a man doing what he thought was right regardles of the consequences.

Which character – as performed by Joe Barrett – was your favorite?

Joe Barrett did an excellent job in presenting Repariman Jack

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Excellent listen, great characters, good reader

If you could sum up The Tomb in three words, what would they be?

Out of order.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Interesting plot. Had to get past the idea that this book wasn't going to answer the plot lines left hanging from Cold City - Book .5.

Any additional comments?

I found this series and thought it would be fun to read the books in order. This book is fine it just doesn't come after Cold City. Skip this book until later. It seems like it is about 10 years after the first book. Book 3 - Dark City picks up where Cold City left off.

Not #2 - Skip this.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! The Repairman Jack series is outstanding!

What other book might you compare The Tomb to and why?

It is hard to find a book that compares to this. F. Paul Wilson has been accused of creating a new genre with the RJ series. "Strange/Weird Crime". or Supernatural Vigilante.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was ok. The narrator was a little too old sounding for the general overall novel. He made the characters sound like they were all in their 60's.

Repairman Jack is awesome!

A must listen for fans of supernatural thrillers.

This is a tough book to review. The Story is interesting and very original. There is just something that keeps it from being compelling.

For one thing, Repairman Jack himself doesn't become even a little interesting until at least halfway through the book. I kept thinking: why should i care about Jack...he's boring and irksome. Even the whole idea of not having an identity made no sense when you find out he still has a family he visits.

There were also a few too many what I call "Oh-Come-on-now!" moments. No spoilers here and I realize this is the author's story, not mine, but there are some things this listener just take...moments you tell yourself "Oh, C'mon Now! No one would do that!"

I think the biggest reason I do not like this book is the narrator. He is all wrong. He sounds like he should have been the voice over for a 1960's insurance commercials not reading a supernatural thriller. He did some very convincing NY, Indian & Jewish accents but OMG when he tries to sound like a 7 year old girl i wanted to stick hot wax in my ears.

I did like the originality of the book and I think they changed narrators in the next book so i may give it a try.

Interesting Story Horrible Narration...

First time reading a repairman Jack novel. Found it very good, and exciting. Joe Barrett is a great narrator. Worth the credit. If you liked death wish movie you will love this.

Great start for a series

I read this book when it was first published in 1985. I am a fan of F. P. Wilson and this one followed “The Keep”. I didn’t realize until the next book came along that this was part of a series and really knitted well.

This go around I see it had been updated to be a bit more contemporary. But nothing else was changed. I will have to listen to all of them now. Can’t wait for my next book.

Nice update to an old favorite
