Publisher's Summary

Your thyroid gland is small but mighty. This little butterfly-shaped organ that sits in the front of your neck affects almost every organ in your body. You can thank it for regulating your body temperature, helping you lose or gain weight, aiding in your breathing, in developing your brain, controlling your cholesterol, supporting your heart, regulating menstrual cycles, keeping your skin healthy, and so much more.

When your thyroid stops working correctly, your body can experience some incredibly distressful and sometimes painful side effects. Sometimes the thyroid gets damaged and does not produce enough hormones for your body to function correctly. This is called hypothyroidism. It is often caused by an autoimmune disease, like Hashimoto's, and can cause you to gain weight, feel extremely tired, dry out your hair and skin, make you less focused, and slow down metabolism. On the other hand, your thyroid may become over-stimulated and produce too many hormones, which is called hyperthyroidism. Autoimmune diseases, like Grave's disease, can cause this and can make you lose wanted weight, be less tolerant of temperatures, have an increased heart rate, and experience frequent diarrhea. There are various methods of treatment for thyroid problems; some that are drastic like removing the entire gland, and others are a simple supplementation for a while. Not all problems need to be treated and some resolve themselves. One method for controlling your thyroid levels is to control what you eat and when you eat it. If you are taking medication it is important you time eating certain foods correctly with when you take your medication. Also, some foods interact poorly with your body and thyroid while others do sometimes when eaten in certain ways or in certain quantities. There are also foods that do wonders for the equilibrium of your thyroid.

it is concise and direct to the point.

This is a book that is for everyone and not only intended for those who have the said sickness like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. And although the writer of this information kept it short, it is concise and direct to the point.

I will surely be recommending this.

My mom-in-law recently undergoes a surgery because she has thyroid cancer. How I wished I knew the details here sooner and maybe it had not been too late. I will surely be recommending this to her friends and emphasize the value of it.

concise

There are tons of thyroid books because wonky thyroids are just about epidemic - This is one of the more concise, down-to-earth, practical, medically based books that will give you a total game plan to get that thyroid rogue gland in some sort of order. It speaks in language that makes sense and the overall health attributes it offers would be of benefit to anyone, thyroid issues notwithstanding. A great foundation book for thyroid patients.

wow book

I am constantly learning about my disease of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto disease which is good. I am using some of the techniques given to me from the book in the goal to lose weight. When you have low thyroid it is very hard to lose weight and you can get thoroughly disgusted sometimes.. Being on a diet is hard enough but when you stay on your diet and stop losing weight it really makes you bonkers!

challenged sorts

. A list of possible peripheral problems that a thyroid conditon may cause follows, then the book breaks into the "meat" of the discussion, namely how to shape a diet to fend off these potential pitfalls. Common sense weight loss tips are covered, along with a clear battle plan on how to shop and, namely, how a thyroid patient should shape his/her diet. The final part of the book offers help in the form of recipes (broken into respective time-of-day meals - breakfast, lunch, et al), many that seem easy to make and others that, admittedly, seem somewhat labor intensive for us kitchen-challenged sorts.
