Publisher's Summary

In a future where time travel has been outlawed, a black market exists for anyone with the money, connections, and nerve to request items from days past. As a Runner for one of the underground syndicates that now controls the timewaves, Stassi 2446-89 has seen it all: the fall of Rome, the rise of Hitler, the end of democracy, the establishment of time tourism, and the devastating consequences of it. Her job is to seamlessly slip through the past, in search of items of value to the syndicate's clientele.

Stassi's next assignment takes her to Paris in the 1920s in search of a lost manuscript by one of the 20th century's greatest writers. She and her partner, Gaige, are swept up in the City of Light during the height of fashion and culture - as alluring a locale as they've ever visited. But a seedier side of life lurks beneath the glamorous facade, and the pair quickly learns this run is more dangerous than any of their previous missions.

Because history isn't playing out as it should be - a first for the syndicate. When the stakes are raised and it becomes a matter of life or death, Stassi and Gaige must ultimately decide how far they're willing to go to ensure the future as they know it.

Great story, bad editing.

This an amazing story. long but good. The writter is excellent at describing places, things, places, clothing and of course Paris. At some points she can actually get a little too winded. It could of been shaved off a bit.
The story line was very good. It something I've never heard before. It definitely keeps you interested. With lots of twists and turns. I actually jumped online to grab the second book and noticed it has not yet been released.
You can read this book all the way through. it doesn't have any cliffhangers or anything like that, but man I couldn't wait to hear the second book.
I do however wish that the narrator works on her Reading a bit and doing other voices better. The two main characters voices are great but some of the other ones need some work. Also there's a lot of volume going up and down and a bit of repeating.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Good story, worst narration ever!

The book itself is pretty good - the time travel element isn't really the key to the plot - it's more of a mystery/period piece/thriller - but I can see how the time travel element will work well with the longer story arc of the series.
The problem is a narrator with robotic intonation, putting emphasis on all the wrong words, reading deadpan and mispronouncing many words - not just the foreign language ones but also many English ones. Production quality is also low, with several examples of poor sound editing when the narrator stumbled and repeated phrases, plus pauses between chapters that varied between what one would normally expect in an audiobook and long enough to make me check my phone to make sure it hadn't stopped.
I have listened to thousands of audiobooks, and normally don't leave reviews, but this one was irritating enough to get me motivated. I really want to listen to the next book in this series....but only with a different narrator and a real production company!

Time Travel Mystery

I absolutely love Time travel novels and this is no exception . I have always wanted to go to Paris and this made me even more anxious to . The level of descriptions to detail is amazing . I didn't want it to end even after 20 hours . The narration was so so . Sometimes I felt it and sometimes I just didn't . I look forward to more from this author .

Time travel gold

I love time travel books. This one had a big mystery entwined in it. Stassi goes back in time to retrieve a book but there’s a murderer getting in her way. Stassi is so clever and witty and there’s a sweet love story or two in the story. The narrator was not my favorite as she has a weird cadence but she was great at various character voices! There was a nice cliffhanger at the end... can’t wait to hear book 2!

Loved it!!

I don’t have many time traveler books read but I’m so happy to have grabbed this book. It is brilliant!! The whole world building of the runners and their world is fantastic. I was very intrigued by the Runners life and their outcomes. I was fascinated with Stassi and Gage. Stassi has a unknown background that really makes the reader want to dig more into her past. The plot was amazing as well. I don’t want to give it away but know that it is a great story that keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat. I listened to the audiobook and it was just as fantastic. I thought the narrator was the perfect voice for Stassi. Truly brought their world to life for me. Highly recommend.

Nix the Narrator

The Narrator of this book! Just no. Every 10 minutes she is pronouncing words wrong, she speaks in a very slow, odd tone overly trying to enunciate and ending each sentence lowering her tone. “Heruclean” vs “Herculean”. “Insigna” vs “Insignia”, etc. Gah it’s so painful. The story itself has potential but I just can’t get past the narration - 20 hours of it.

Stilted Narrator

It may be ok for some but the narrator didn’t seem very fluid. It felt like listening to a lecture on something you’re not interested in. Because of this I couldn’t really appreciate the story. Sorry if this causes any offence.

great story, horrible narrator

I absolutely love the story and the premise but the narrator sounded like a robot and it almost ruined the experience for me. Unfortunately I would recommend this book being read not listened to.

Worth the listen

Poor narration but great story. You get used to the narration after a while so not as annoying. I am excited to listen to the other books.
