Publisher's summary

Ernest Hemingway's first novel, The Sun Also Rises, follows the adventures of a group of young, hard-drinking, American expatriates - which Hemingway refers to as the "Lost Generation" - as they pinball through Europe, from France to Spain and back again. Directionless, disillusioned, and fueled by copious amounts of alcohol, narrator Jake Barnes takes the listeners into the heart of 1920's Europe, particularly Paris and Pamplona (where the characters witness the infamous running of the bulls and Jake develops as fascination with bullfighting).

At once cynical and satiric, The Sun Also Rises was the first cry of a new literary voice that would come to dominate the first half of the 20th century.

The seminal novel from Nobel Prize winner Ernest Hemingway, the book appears here in its unabridged and original format.

A riveting story. A classic in any time.

This classic endures. Narration is well done and you will enjoy this work for sure!

Awesome narration

The narrator did a great job transitioning between all the European accents, and following a clear consistent voice for each character. It was easy to follow even through Hemingway's sparsely decorated dialogue.

Absolutely amazing narration

One of the best narrations I've listened to. My first hemingway book. Don't expect much from the plot, just enjoy the ride

Great narration of a classic

I returned another version of this book because the narrator was awful, but Joseph Wycoff did Hemingway proud.

Disappointing story

Perhaps I was missing something but it just seemed like a bland story about the travels of several aimless, empty people. And so much drinking that it made ME feel nauseous. 😖😂

Everything just felt right with the voice and the story matching well

The voices, as well as the pronunciations were great as well as adding some tonal shifts in places I didn’t notice on the first read through! :)
The story was very immersive, and felt as if you were reading a diary could get a little boring and confusing at certain points.

Settle in and let the richness of this story wash over you

I downloaded this book as I left Pamplona for Madrid. I knew nothing about the story except for its setting in Pamplona and its tale of bullfighting. But it is so much more. It is a living travelogue that will forever keep the memory of Pamplona, San Sébastien, and the French coastal towns alive in my mind. It’s also a story of the ease of friendship. Most of all I loved the way Hemingway captures the world through the details - the way he describes a room, a person, an experience - short sentences that freeze moments in time. The narration is excellent.

I was surprised

I did not realize the Hemingway was an anti-Semite. The repeated and unnecessary anti-Semitic remarks were unnecessary and in no way contributed to the storyline with was, at best… boring…. The narration was excellent.

Great narration buy disappointing story.

The first book I read by Hemingway was "The Old Man and the Sea" and by comparison, imo, this was disappointing. The dialog is so repetitive in their conversations, endless repetitions. I'm glad I read it but only bc it's a classic. I thought the narrator was excellent. I would listen to other audio books narrated by him.

Why censor words in an unabridged book?

I liked the writing and I liked the performance. I did not like beeps in place of the author’s words.
