Humanity will finally be saved or destroyed in the shattering conclusion to the post-apocalyptic and highly acclaimed NYT bestselling trilogy that won the Hugo Award three years in a row.

The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women.

Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe.

For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.

In a genre (fantasy) with so many books that are derivative, it's nice to get an original story.

First, let's just give credit to the author for not only starting an incredible fantasy series but actually finishing it (ahem, ahem Rothfuss and Martin).

The Stone Sky is a fitting end to an epic journey. We've followed Essun through the bad times and then the really bad times and now her journey is complete.

Everything I loved about the first two books is present in the third, deep world building, fascinating and empathetic characters and unpredictable but tight plotting.

I thought the ending was fantastic. It was both totally unpredictable and yet completely fit with everything that had come before. It really showed tremendous imagination beyond what I think most other writers are capable of in this genre.

NK really puts you through the ringer with this series but she pays it off in a way that feels totally satisfying and she is clearly worthy of the mountain of awards she's earned.

Having finished this series, the only thing to do now is to dive into the rest of her titles.
