Publisher's Summary

A woman on the run finds refuge in a motel at the edge of the woods, with plenty of vacancies. Check in for the night with New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger.

Eve has a fake ID, a .38, and a violent lover receding in the rearview mirror. He’ll never find her at the isolated motel, and its kindly manager is happy to ease her fears. But if Eve is the only guest, whom does she keep hearing on the other side of the wall? Eve won’t get a good night’s rest until she finds out.

Lisa Unger’s The Sleep Tight Motel is part of Dark Corners, a collection of seven heart-stopping short stories by bestselling authors who give you so many new reasons to be afraid. Each story can be read in a single sitting. Or, if you have the nerve, you can listen all by yourself in the dark.

The reading is flat, dull, and awful

The story may be okay, but I'm having a hard time getting past the terrible reading. It's flat, dull, and has an oddly robotic cadence. I first thought it was being read by the default accessibility reader on my phone because it was so strangely robotic. There's no feeling, no warmth. The reader feels completely disengaged from the story. Since I got this through Kindle Unlimited, I'll try reading the book on my Kindle and forego the audio. I see they used the same reader or all of the Dark Corners Collection. I'll see if those are any better, but I'm not feeling very hopeful right now.

Just OK

Helped pass an hour and half away on road trip. Nothing new in ghost storytelling. Narrator should not try to do male voices. Very distracting.

Reader makes it unbearable.

It's difficult to rate the story itself since the person reading was so bad that I stopped a third of the way in. Besides resembling a text-to-speech program, her reading of male parts was equally ridiculous and frustrating. She tried so hard to lower her voice that her delivery of the lines didn't the way anyone would say them. Rather it just sounded like she was struggling to get the words out. On top of that, it simply sounded absurd. If the story interests you try reading it instead.

OKAY.

This audiobook was okay. Kind of slow moving and a little confusing until it all kind of comes together in the end with the mild shock. Nothing spectacular about it at all.

Stuff without fluff

The narrator was okay. She kept the story moving. This is one short story in a collection. I liked the story, was invested in the ending. With the limited number of pages, something had to be sacrificed, and that was the fluff. I can't tell you details on the characters, but can tell you the plot and the ending was satisfying.

No more Amy Landen

I just cannot stand her voice. It’s so whiny!! No. No more. This story could have been good with another narrator, and I saw the ending coming once again. I have been compelled to start a note of narrators I will never listen to again, along with narrators I love, so I guess she can be thanked for that!

enjoyed the story

I enjoyed the story. but not the narrator. Her voice reminded me of a computer programmed voice, with very little voice inflection. Luckily this was a short story. It is worth a read or listen, as its a very interesting story that kept me enthralled and wondering what would happen to Eve. If the performance had been better, I'd have given it 5 stars, performance in my opinion was 2 stars.

Better than the previous in the series.

the first in this anthology style series was good but this one is better. though I knew where we were heading relatively quickly the journey to the final destination was both unique and enjoyable.
